I appreciate it is probably vanity really but I have got big scuffs on the front of my Scarpa SL M3's and I want to know if I can disguise them with a special polish or dye to keep them looking as new as possible?

I've found that Scarpa's own HS12 cream really does the business. On my SL's it really seems to bring them up better than anything else.

The Scarpas will scuff. Mine are now almost completely scuffed.

It is worth treating the leather with acqueous wax regularly and to supplement this with a good occasional coating of the version that comes in the old fashiooned Nikwax tin - i.e. wax rather than liquid.

This really does make something of a difference.

When you get Scarpa SLs you kind of marvel at the quality of the leather don't you? But scuffing comes to anyone who actually used the things on the hills!

Nothing looks better than a scuffed toe on a leather boot.
It indicates a familiarity with an upward gradient and close encounters with rocks.

mm! the Angel tends to veer towards it indicating being a lazy git for not being bothered to spruce them up...."considering the amount of time you lavish love and attention on them"

I'm with Gary. The HS12 cream works well.

I got told to glue an inner tube to the front of them so as to act as a rand. I have not done this, but is there anyone on here who has experience of doing this?

Disguise them!??? Don't you know that scuffs are like duelling scars, a badge of honour?

Wear your boot scuffs proudly! My ultra-scuffed Hillmasters have become minor legends in small circles (ie. the UEA Fell Club), as has my Sigg bottle, which is now so dented I can waffle on for half an hour about it.

I always hate re-waterproofing my boots because it hides the scuffs. Pristine boots are for sissies. :D

I've glued Yeti gaiter rands onto boots before now, but I suspect that inner tubes will come unstuck in the wet.. Maybe worth a try though.
