OM Forum Gets Easier Linking
It's now much easier to make clickable links in your forum postings, plus if you're feeling really expressive, you can even format your text. Cool or what????

We've just rationalised the way clickable links are created on the forum - no more html - Hurrah! - instead a simple new mark-up code.

Full details in the article at the top of this thread :-)

Now working :-)

Jon,
This will definitely make life easier (although three cheers for Gordy's Link Generator until now).
But one question - will the new link method open stuff in a new window or the existing window? (A choice would be even better but failing that my vote would go for a new window.)

I'm 90 per-cent sure it will open a new window.

All we need now is for Gordon to get working on it and we'll have a new version of his code generator - that really does simplify it :)

Dave - The existing version of the link generator supports this already. You just check the box that says "Use BBCode instead of HTML".

I'm glad they've enabled bold, italics, etc. too. Makes it a bit easier to get some expression into your posts.

Though I'm a little surprised they haven't just used something like the built-in link generator example I posted a while ago, given how little work would be required to implement it.

I think the idea is that the new code is so straightforward to use that people shouldn't actually need a links generator. It's something that's been on the back burner for a while too.

Bold, I like bold :-)

Jon,
Just a thought - any chance that the info in your news item could be presented on the forum page as a help / reminder item. I know it's pretty straightforward but it could be useful, once your news item and this thread have sunk from view, to still have the stuff available for reference (it would help new OMers to get started too). Maybe it could be part of a User Guide tab a bit like you have on the Gallery?
What do you think?
