 Funny as hell!

Yeah, I was a bit skeptical about this too, but didn't want to say anything in case anyone got upset. Isn't she supposed to be doing it for charity or something?
I find it a bit hard to believe to be honest!

I hope Outdoorsmagic will provide sponsorship for this brave ladies attempt. Maybe one of Jon's Arse-crampons for her descent?
This is a joke, isn't it, has anyone seen the videos?
Is she Brian Blessed's Mother? If it's real, good luck to her!!
 Is she wearing Primaloft tights?

If this is real I will personally greet them on the summit. Oh come on. This is a viral marketing campaign for Mammut or an elaborate hoax. As Ian says the videos really do tell the tale - as she points at the hill and says 'And sometimes I even climb....Botley Hill' I was rolling around the floor laughing. It is sheer quality though.

Obviously OM is right behind Mary in her ground-breaking expedition, I've mailed her to express our admiration and support.
Btw Woodie, is that Christmas pudding stuck or what? It does suit you though.

Note that Trail magazine is one of her "sponsors" - let's hope they aren't responsible for providing directions!

Of course Guilford is well located close to the North Downs Way - a good training ground for such an expedition.

Go girl..being an Oxygenairan she'll not need breathing apparatus..

I suspect a big mountaineering company is using this as the start of a major ad campaign for a budget brand of cheap rambling gear due to be launched soon. Maybe Mammut (shes wearing its jacket) trying to challenge Regatta ( that'd explain Trail's association, as there's big bucks in low level rambling gear ad campaigns.) Why else would a gear maker associate itself with the image of a sweet old dear and her lapdog? No credible big mountaineering company would even consider that. Or perhaps it's genuine, or perhaps Mary's really Elvis after plastic surgery and this is a comeback gimmick, or perhaps she's Guy Procter's great great aunt...

......... or it's Monty Python's Mount Everest Adventure.
If she is for real, I hope she's got stout boots and a very big flask of tea.
I heard there is a 'Thora Hird' style stairlift, up the back of Everest.
Maybe thats the new line she is trying..?

Can I nominate john fitzpatrick as an early contender for pun of the year please? :))

Just realised there's someone missing from the "idols" section of her website - Ernest Shackleton. As in Shackleton's recliners. As in, "my niece got it at Shackletons... it's lovely" fame... Oh, you're all too young.

Wonderful - how about taking my 82 year old mother-in-law to help carry loads up the Khumbu icefall to the foot of the face?
I'll nip round and ask her if you want. Guildford isn't that far away.
One fact you all forget, she has probably been training on Guildford High Street for years. Which as everyone knows is very steep.
And cobbled, so you could practise your mixed axework...
Actually, the side road around by the castle is even steeper; cycled up there many a time on the way to a mate's in Merrow to go MTBing. A bit of a viscious warm-up after sitting on the train for half an hour...
(ps. the postcode points to just outside Alton...)
