Does anyone know if pertex is still being made? I know its still seen in plenty of kit, but wasnt sure if this kit was made before company went under. I know rab have changed the fabric on their survival zone bivi bag to something else now (used to be pertex?.

When I spoke to RAB about exactly this before christmas, they told me that Perseverence Mills had been bought out by a Chinese company and that they would continue to produce and develop the pertex brand.

I was about to buy a £250 Rab down bag, (with Pertex outer) when I was advised that the same shop were shipping back a consignment of Rab Photon Hoodies (also pertex outer) because they used Pertex manufactured in the new facility nad were apparently substandard.

Note that this is unsubstantiated, but I know this gear shop and I trust what they say. Pretty irritating as I still need a bag and had my eye on a Photon as well. I would doubt that Rab would let this continue if in fact it is the case.

I'd like to hear if anyone esle has heard anything similar.

My Dad used to make pertex at Perserverance mills until it closed. Yes it is now made under licence in the far east, although I know that it was made here originally because nobody else could make it due to the ultra-fine weave that was required.

John-Paul, if your looking for a good quality down bag made with Pertex then look at the cumulus bags, they still have large stocks of english made pertex with which they make their bags plus they've just released a new range. I have an ultra light 350 and its great, small light and warm.

Pertex is still being made. It is not the company that it used to be though.

The company behind Event bought it.

The bottom line is, as has been said, that Pertex is now being made in the far east. It's premature to comment on fabric quality at this point, but given that ultimately, producing fabric is an industrial process, I can't see any reason that the 'new' Pertex shouldn't be just as effective as the UK-made stuff, though there may, I suppose, be a bit of a teething period while the new factories get things sorted.
