Personally I dont't like the new staple binding system that Aprils TGO has adopted. The advantage of the proper binding system was that when back issues are stored on a book shelf you can quickly reference the issue and some of the contents for example gear reviews that used to be labelled on the spine.

If it aint broke why fix it?

They're not staples. It's this months free gift. Part of the Lighten Up thing. Open the magazine at the centre, unbend the "staples" and pull them out. Straighten one leg of each and you have two hyperlightweight tent pegs. 0.34 grams each.

Next months gift, two more hyperlightweight tent pegs and a gigalightweight tent (the cover has a cunningly designed crease in it and makes a simple, but very lightweight ridge tent).

Ideas for June issue please.

Personally I liked it - you can take out the centre page mountain guide thing. Quite usefull really.

JH - ideas for June? The guy ropes to complete the ultra lightweight tent maybe?

Versatility, using one object for more than one job (for instance treking poles becoming tent poles) is certainly a winner when it comes to saving weight. Imagine if you could sleep the night in and on TGO, then in the morning cook and eat it on a fire fueled by it. That's lightweight. If it hadn't gone glossy you could even wipe your arse with it.

Try that with the digital edition.
