if you are renewing you aren't eligable for the goodies!!!
that's what I was told, but out of the kindness of the lady on the stands heart, I was allowed one of the gifts available instead of the two I would of got if I was a new subscriber.
thanks for making me feel wanted TGO.
and yet the more I think about it the more p*ssed off I feel about it.

 Why did you renew, then?
What would the situation have been if you'd allowed your subscription to expire, and then taken out a new subscription the following month?
Would anyone from TGO like to explain this, please? It's clear from a recent thread that Trail allows existing subscribers to have the free gift if they choose to renew their subscription. Why doesn't TGO do the same?

Think you're right Shirl - just cancelling and taking out a new subscription should get round it. Not sure why TGO don't make it as easy as Trail though!
PS Did you get my email re Ullapool?

For some perverse reason I am now glad my sister-in-law didnt bother to renew my sub this Christmas as I was able to take advantage of the free HiTec boots offer for a 3 year sub for £85 at the Outdoors show yesterday, A saving of £30 and a pair of eVent lined lightweight summer boots rated by Chris Townsend? Bargain.

Peewee, I'd travelled up to the NEC specifically to renew my subscriptions, but at the moment come Monday, after having had this weekend to mull it over will be phoning up to cancel.
|
 |
I took out a subscription for the first time and decided to go digital but you can only take out a digital subscription for 2 years so you miss out on the boots offer.
I have emailed TGO about this and if I don't get a satisfactory reply then guess what I'm cancelling

I think that, when somebody from the mag is in a position to answer this thread, you will find that the policy is dictated by the holding company, and not by anyone within TGO itself.
It would be wrong for me to be the one to mention names but I do happen to know that at least two people from the TGO staff are unhappy with this situation and would actually agree with your sentiments.

Ahaa, WD. I see what you mean. That's a bit of a pain!
p.s. cool piccy, Frank! :)

let's bump this up hopeful that some-one at TGO will notice it after they have read their emails after being away from the office.
Update: I've emailed them cancelling my renewal and complaining about the way that renewing subscribers have been treated at the show. Sadly as a one man protest I won't be purchasing TGO again.

think this needs bumping up!!!!!
|
 |
I got round it this year by putting Bob's name on the form instead of mine when I paid up. The subs lady commented that I would have got a free gift last year anyway - but I signed up at the NEC last year and got no freebie that I can remember....
|
 |
well my subscription has run out, and I'm more than happy to stand in Tescos reading TGO instead of paying for it. So my one man protest is still on.
Cameron and I exchanged emails, and failed to see eye to eye over the issue. So I can assume Cameron wasn't one of the ones Walking Baggy was hinting at.
I also have to add I haven't resubscrbed to Trail either, as currently they have nothing on offer to attract me back.
One other point any freebies given on the newstand version by TGO (like the energy bar given away with it last year) aren't given to the subscribers either.
|
 |
My Tesco doesn't sell tgo and it's hard to find anywhere unless you can catch WHS on arrival day after a trip to the town centre. Hence the subscription.
Oh, and I emailed the appropriate department weeks/months ago asking for a sample of the online version of the mag (as instructed) and got nothing back :o(

JJ, like the mobile companies they have your money already, so they don't care.
|
 |
As my subscription was coming to an end all the notification I got was two badly printed letters offering me a special deal - if I took an additional subscription to another mag from the same publishers. Wasn't too difficult to make a decison on an offer that enticing. Maybe I'll take another sub if there is an offer I like; then again maybe I'll find that I can get by without. Good mag, poor way to treat subscribers.

 |
 I'm not sure I'm getting this.. . .
If you subscribe, you get a "free" gift. So, you're paying for the subscription and then you get a little extra.
If you re-subscribe, you don't get the gift. But you're no worse off tahn if there had ben no gift.
How about the cost of the subscription goes up and everyone gets the gift? Would you still subscribe?
