At £260 and with an empty weight of 2.3 Kilos, for a 60 litre pack !

No thanks.
- (Sorry, my mistake, the actual price is £220 but the weight is correct - Jon)

I dont care what its got its still only a backpack.

The best pack i had was a TNF 70 litre (cannot remember its name now but it had a red/black outer with a yellow waterproof inner, and mostly made from a rip stop nylon, no fancy bells or whistles, anyone still got one?), with an empty weight of less than 700 grammes, that would give me 1.6 Kilo of extra gear over the MHW. And okay the pack was not that stable but it still allowed me to carry my gear from A to B.

Having said all that of course there may be climbers out there that would like this MHW pack.

No climber is gonna wear a pack that weighs that much, is useless worn without its hip belt, and has lots of smashable bits n bobs sticking off it at odd angles. We can conclude then, that nobody is ever going to buy one of these packs... We've had them at work for over a month now and the total number of people who were even remotely interested is now..... One. And he didnt buy it.

We may conclude then that this pack with all its fancy gadgets may only be suitable for the likes of ............

I may come across in this thread like i hate MHW gear, in fact i dont, i think some of their clothing is great, see my reviews, but this pack sucks! Big over the top style ;-)

First, somehow we got the price wrong, it's actually £220 rather than £260.

Second, I think there are some interesting ideas on this pack, but it's way too complicated and tricky to set up. It'll be interesting to see whether MHW can develop the concept into something a bit simpler over the next couple of years.

I actually rather like the mobility advantages you get with the Bioflex and, to a lesser extent, this pack - you can bend over and touch your toes wearing it - but I'd like to see, say, a Bioflex back system on an alpine pack because that's where the extra hip mobility and flexibility would really pay off. Most trekking happens on relatively undemanding tracks where the biggest technical obstacle is the odd stile...

Oh, and this is definitely a high tech trekking / backpacking sac and not a technical climbing pack. MHW is selling those, but they're a more conventional design,

"you can bend over and touch your toes wearing it"

LOL - obviously a key selling point! ;-)

<Personally I can scrape my knuckles on the ground as I walk without having to bend over anything like that amount... hehe :) >

What a ridiculously over-complicated product. The polar opposite of the simple, bombproof, lightweight gear that serious consumers look for. I feel that MHW is innovating for the sake of it, as a way to grab headlines in a new market, and hasn't thought enough about the target audience's needs.

I'd like to see one after Ryanair's baggage handlers had finished with it!

This is a reminder, though, of how technology sells. THe lightweight movement has a way to go yet!

To be honest, I think this rucksack will be a lousy seller.

Apparently, it also took ages to develop so MHW had better find an alternative use for some of the features. If not, new owners Columbia might not be too happy and start taking an interest in MHW's R&D. Which would be bad....

Our local outdoor mag did a review on one recently as well and the conclusion was that it would be terrible for for bush bashing as anything and everything would get caught in all the "sticky outy bits", only good for formed tracks.
Another observation was that the reviewer got bruises from the harness on his back after bending down to touch his toes.
Also commented on was that it would most probably not survive a trip through some airports.

I think I buy more into the "less is more" style of packs (getting an Osprey Aether this weekend).

I actually find the Berghaus Bioflex packs very comfortable (moreso than the Osprey perhaps) however im not willing to risk taking such a complicated pack into the hills. Being thrown in cars, chucked around carparks, dropped at lunchtime at the peak, trampled on by useless careless friends... I'd break the plastic packs no problem.

i just bought one and only paid £100 . to be honest i thought id made a big mistake,i was wrong. To understand this pack dont compare it to anything else and read the manual (a bloody manual for a pack lol) .Trust me i took the extra time to follow the instructions and and it dosn't take to long to set it up and when you do its worth it you really cant tell diffrence between 10kg and 25kg its really comfy  its well worth it ps the harrier m is 72lt and not 60lt

Jamie,

the fact that you picked one up for £100 only a little over a year after it was launched probably indicates that it was a poor seller. I am glad you found a pack that you like for a very reasonable price, and would be interested to hear how you fare if  you ever take it on a plane. A long time ago I had an over-complex Karrimor Condor with a semi-rigid back system - it carried beautifully but I soon came to loathe it for all sorts of reasons - poor reliability of plastics, creaking noises, difficult to take on aircraft etc etc. These days I stick to simpler, cleaner designs.

But what suits me may be altogether wrong for you, so I hope it works out.

John

To be honest i would not have paid the mhw rrp no pack is worth that and the only reason we are charged theses prices is because of the mug gear junkies that put fashion over function .  I.d been looking for a pack for some time when i found this one i was thinking bioflex with its proven record it was a good choice but the mhw won me over. whether or not il still be laughing in a couple of years only time will tell but the unknown is there to be explored but so far its a top pack il keep you posted(positive or negative).I hope it works too john.(ps i hate flying so the pack will probably be in a lot better condition than me) .
