Rhys began breaking records on 17th December 2005 when he became the youngest person to climb 4,896m Mount Vinson in Antarctica, four weeks after his seventeenth birthday.

If everything goes according to plan (like it does so often on mountains:-) he should be on the summit for his twentieth birthday on May 17.

Blimey this high altitude mountainerring really makes you old fast. Or maybe it's something to do with having two birthdays, one in May the other in November.

Agh, sorry, my mistake! He summited Mount Vinson in December 2005, aged 19, not 17. (He was only 17 when he became the youngest Briton to summit Mount McKinley). Maths, eh? Who needs it!

I've corrected the article now so that it looks a bit more like I know the answer to 17 + 2 ...

What a fantastic achievement. I couldn't afford to fund trips to seven continents even if I had the ability. How he has managed to do that and hold down a well paid job with lots of leave (I'm assuming) aged only 19 is incredible. Goodness knows how he has managed it, is he sponsored by one of the major gear maunfacturers?

He has some sponsorship. Breaking a few records always helps persuade gear manufacturers to help you out! It still takes a fair bit (physically and financially:-) to make an attempt on Everest though, so that doesn't take away from the achievement.
