Kieran - I think the Mountain Attack is abit too climbing specific for general use. Personally I'd recommend the 35ltr Lowe Alpine Walkabout - Gaynors had last years model cheap in their clearance section last time I looked, but you can get the current model for under £50.

I dont think you will go wrong with either Berghaus Freeflow or Lowe Alpine Walkabout. Just look for good offers.

Go for the lightest, decent, pack you can find. You will never regret having a light pack
Have a serious look at HIke Lite and Backpackinglite.co.uk on the web. Both have a good range of lightweight, saller packs. Good prices too.
Fancy back systems like those opn Freeslow and Atmos packs do work butadd weight. After using both options I much prefer a lighter pack to a wizzo back system.

I have the mountain attack 30 and it really is a no nonsense pack. Theres no waist support either, just a stap to keep the thing stuck to ya So for your specified use, i would suggest to go for something a bit more general.
Don't overlook the camelbak packs by the way, theyre very handy to walk with

Kieran, quite a bit depends on your height, or more exactly, your back length.
This is more of a problem with a day sac as they are smaller all round.
I was looking last year and the only one I could find long enough, (I'm 6-1), was made by Berghaus. With all the other makes I tried the waist strap was halfway up my chest.
Do manufacturers think only shorties use daysaca

.jpg) We use the berghaus freeflow packs ,had mine for around 15 months now and is by far the most comfotable pack Ive owned. Bought our lass the twenty litre one the other week(was fed up with carrying her coat). The only problem ,if it is one ,is that you have to turn and face the rocks a bit sooner than you would when scrambling down hill ,the pack sticks out a bit further than most so tends to want to push you off the hill on steep bits.

The trouble with the new Lowe Alpine Walkabouts (or Walkabout 'Air' as they are now known) is that they are about 4 ft wide and about 3 inches thick due to the back board.
Ok, I exagerrated a bit.
