How many people sleep perfectly still on their back like a dead person, well I know I certainly dont. This idea might work in a rectangular bag where you have the space to move about, but I cant see it working in a mummy bag.

 The back-sleeping argument was the main criticism of Macpacs similar bags, because of the cooler gaps that form at back and front when lying on your side. However, if the new ME bags have the EXL elasticated seams inside then presumably this won't be as much of a problem, as the inner linner will still be fairly snug. But I can't actually see if they have EXL or not. Any ideas Jon?
Alex - the relative weight of the thermarest would tend to keep it on the bottom surely?
And sleeping on your back makes you more likely to snore and so shouldn't be encouraged - not in my tent anyway!

 Let's be frank. I must admit I roll round so much in my sleeping bag I'm surprised that my tent isn't upside down in the morning.

 Yep, I'm not what you'd call a stationary sleeper (and I don't mean pens, paper, envelopes and stuff) so it'd be interesting to see how well this sort of system worked for me.
But not interesting enough for me to shell out the cash!

Well, I'm going to concur with most people on this thread and confess that at night in a sleeping bag I wriggle about like a bananaesque sausage on a barbecue.
(go on, close you eyes and visualise that one)
Buying an ME Sleepwalker (aptly named) has helped to prevent major torsions these days. I no longer wake up with the bag enveloping me in a double helix.

 following a long spell in hospital flat on my back fixed to wires and pulleys I now only sleep on my back like a dead person, which is handy for sleeping on hard ground. But I still like my bag and mat seperate.

 I've got one of the Macpac versions, and don't find it a problem turning over or sleeping on my side without the bag moving. It's a little more spacious than a normal bag due to the space needed to fit the mat in its sleeve, and the mat also tends to anchor the bottom of the bag quite well.

There was a question raised wasn't there, about whether or not the xtra weight keeps the bag the right way up. The trouble I always find is that when I wake up the bag can be... well lets put it this way... I have woken up with a bag upside down (I'd exchanged my foot placement for my head), the wrong way up at head and foot, and the right way up in the middle, and also almost entirely inside out (although I blame my tent mate for that one!)

Often just drunk, sometimes very drunk, and only on lucky occasions (like today in fact - look elsewhere for an explanation) Very Drunk Drew. I really do hope that it wasn't after a night of passion as my tent mate is Craig!
The best bit was they all happened in one night!

like everyone else I also roll about and find mummy bags too constricting... getting one big enough for my bulk is a problem too! I'm forced into a bulky snugpack navigator at the moment because there's room, and my old bones need a fat aeric to keep comfy Now if ALPKIT [hint hint] could come up with something along the lines of a bigagnes down quilt that marries to a fat aeric in some way I'd be a very happy bod.

 Well tell them then, why don't you? They are always open and receptive to good new gear ideas! Drop them an email, as likely otherwise they will never find out from this old thread you've resurrected here! Or why not post a new thread of your own even, to pose that self same question to themh right here on the forum! As they certainly do seem to often happily come out to answer such posed questions, on a fairly regular basis here you know.  A good gear idea that is too, by the way! Good thinking there!
