Thanks for the article Jon , very much appreciated :)

Thought I would fill everyone in on what's happening on the weekend.

First things first , what is it all about?

Well the Kern Knotts fundraising weekend is a bi-annual event that we organise in order to raise much needed funds for the Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team. All the events will be aimed at this and all the money raised will go direct to the team

Where is it?

The weekend is held in a marquee at the side of the Wasdale Head Inn. There is plenty of parking, plenty of camping and loads of hotels and B&B's. For more information on the area visit The WasdaleWeb

Finaly the important bit - What is going on?

Well lots ! the weekend events start of Friday night when there will be a live band playing in the Marquee and a chance to meet some of the team, have a look at the kit we use and need to replace and get some back ground.

Saturday is the main event and will comprise of :

A shop and mrt display in the marquee. The shop will be selling outdoor gear kindly donated to us, everything is donated so 100% of the gear goes to the team.

There will be a flight simulator next to the marquee for those wishing to get a feel for the low flying jets that you see in the lakes, again donations to use and all funds go to the team

There will be a treasure hunt laid out around the valley with prizes for the people who get the most checkpoints done in the shortest time.

11.00am is the annual Lingmell Dash fell race. A listed event which sees fell runners going to the summit of Lingmell and back to the marquee. Prizes for all classes, entries on the the day very welcome.

Afternoon will see a dog handlig display and surgery for behavoir from some tame dog handlers !

A RAF Seaking helicopter is planned to make a visit and pop in to say hello ! so get your cameras ready

The evening sees the main event an auction of outdoor equipment in the marquee followed by more live music and a disco if time permits.

I think thats about it? any questions please do email me

Oh and a final scrounge, if anyone knows of anyone who has any kit lying around that they dont need, new or used then please give them a poke to send it to us to sell in the shop or auction.

We can normaly sell most things as long as they are in good order and have sold everything from footbeds, to bikes and alpine courses in the past auctions. The shop during the day has seen honey, socks and hats being sold , so if you can please do help.

If you do have any kit that we can use then please email me for details, either through the site or on info@wmrt.co.uk

Guy, I have volunteered as a helper and will be taking the Friday off work to travel up. Please, do you have any suggestions as to the nearest public transport. Yep, I looked at trains to Ravenglass, no go, possible Friday, with over five hours travelling, but not on the Sunday. Am currently trying out buses but any suggestions welcome.

Gosh Brenda you will be pushed, the main transport route in is by the train along the coast to either Carlise or Barrow, getting off at seascale and then either getting a taxi to the head or hitching, the other option is to get off at Ravenglass take the ratty to Dalegarth station at boot and then walk over via Burnmoor tarn. Buses again are hugely limited, there are some I know on a sunday going to Workington and Carlise but only from Gosforth and seascale and again very limited.
Trains dont run on the costal route on Sundays

Sorry I cant be more help, I can probably arrange to have someone or myself meet you at the station to get you up the valley but other than that I dont know what you can do.

Any thoughts anyone? anyone coming up that can give Brenda a lift?

It's ok Guy, I think I have cracked it. Train to Windermere, bus to Ambleside and then the Langdale Rambler and a walk in from there. It is even feasible for Sunday in reverse. The distance via Sty Head does not look too bad, especially if I can wangle B&B and travel light.

Dawn, you may be better asking Paddy Dillon (posts on here) as he is The Guru of Public Transport in The Lakes. He uses it every day.

I do know that the Wasdale Taxibus from Seascale is number 13 but unfort it tends only to run a few minibuses to the Head in the mornings and back to Seascale station during a small time window in the afternoons.

These IS, of course, the excellent Cumbria Bus Info website - try it.
http://www.cumbriabus.info/ It's really rather super.

Maybe since Dawn is volunteering her time (all the way from London) to help Wasdale MR, someone at Wasdale MR could help her out a bit?
