Just been reading on here about the Crinkle Crags route in the Lake District - has anyone done this route who might be able to tell me whether it would be fine for an absolute beginner to scrambling? I've never done any scrambling before but do climb fairly regularly (up to F6a+ indoor) so thought a grade 1 scramble would probably be do-able... (though please do put me right if this really isn't the case!) I was also wondering if anyone knew how long the route is likely to take to complete.
Thanks in advance to anyone able to help :)

Chillipadi, By some strange coincidence I've done the routes..........it does help when you write them lol. I would think it should be well within your abilities.
It should take somewhere in the region of 2 hours (max) from Langdale. Hope this helps Dave OM Routes Editor

I've not been there so cant comment from any experience, but judging from the article and the way its been rated I'd say you shouldnt have any trouble. Grade 1 scrambles are generally pretty easy.

This always happens... in the time it takes me to write and post everybody's already answered the questions and I look like a fool. lol

Wahey! Thanks so much Dave :)
jonno - lol!
Now to persuade the other half that scrambling is exactly what he wants to do next week...

Ha! It's also always the case that when you're writing to say thanks to people for posting to your thread a whole lot of people post again ;)
Thanks Simon ;)

I thought of another question :P Does the scramble rating take into account the 'notorious' Bad Step or does that tack on another grade?

it doesn't change the grade at all, the bad step is grade 1 too, but if anythig slightly easier at the grade as it's only 12 ft high.

 Cheers Dave!

If you want to see how to do the "Bad Step" }:-0 if you're only 12" high I have prepared a handy illustration as to how to do it.

I took the kids up Crinkle Crags last week and we took an alternate 'scramble' up through this gully. If you push further up into the gully and past the Bad Step you will end up unnder the trapped boulders shown in the pictures. You can wriggle up and through the gaps in the boulders if you're sufficiently agile and slender. It means taking your pack off and passing it up and through separately, but is a nice bit of fun. Perhaps more akin to caving than scrambling - and not recommended for anybody on the more rotund side!

I took my wife up this exact route about a month ago, I'm a novice scrambler and she'd never done any scrambling, we both really enjoyed it and it was a really quiet way up CC, we didn't see another soul till we got to the top. we did the bad step too, for the first time, both up and down, it's not that difficult. I've done Jacks Rake and Crib Goch, both of which are classed as grade 1, and this was easier by far, in fact I'd like to find more of this 'class of route' (bit like a grade 0 really), I think it would be a good way to start the transition from walking to scrambling. I walked it a week ago. Did a route from Langdale up across the Knott and Crinkle Crags, and onto Bowfell. Great route I'd say, even though it was foggy I did thoroughly enjoy it. The scrambles were wet but still manageable, even if the drops disappearing into the mist were a bit scary!
Definitely worth a look though...
