The big question is:

Can you use soap flakes in an automatic washing machine or do we have to go down to the river???

John, soap flakes in an auto is a bad idea. Think foam party in your kitchen...

I've still got about two years supply of Lux stashed in my kitchen.
Stu, I think you must be putting too many flakes in the washer, try half the amount that you would normally use with conventional powders.
And don't put it in the dispenser drawer, mix it with hot water and put it in the drum.

Seconded, that's what I do. And now I know that Lux no longer exists, I can stop looking for it...

It's not so much that they are strange people, just that they redefine the term 'animal lovers'.

Whenever I've used soap flakes in the past I've ended up smelling like a wet sheep. Would be nice if they could improve the 'fragrance'

But wouldn't having a fragrance defeat the whole object ?

They are supposed to be pure.
I've never had a bad smell from using Lux, although I once bought some pure coconut flavoured soap flakes from South America and my kit would come out of the wash smelling foul.

What, sort of coriander coconut chicken?

Helen perhaps you should have a shear before you wash with soap flakes?
