Does anyone else have the same problem...
Hundreds of TGO magazines but no idea which one contains that article your after, the gear review you saw once or the section on the area your about to visit.
Then do they also...
Sit on the floor next to the couch with them all spread all over the front room carpet spending precious hours flipping the pages of these hundred magazines.
And its always the last one you look at, or it wa sin the first one but you missed it flicking!!!
How cool would it be if there was a quick refernce guide from each year listing what appeared in each regular section. No more searching through piles of magazines and contents pages.
Dear Cameron, please consider, please!

 That would be good.
It's a pain having to go through looking for specific articles too, say there's one on a range of hills you want to read (like the routes up one hill section; whatever it's called).

This would be very very good indeed. It's quite frustrating knowing that you have all that info sitting on the shelves but not being able to access it usefully!

Oi! what happened to the printing on the spine of the mag too? Its disapeared in the last 3-4 months. At least that gave you some indication of what was in an issue.
due to reasons of cost ...blah ...blah.......

Trail used to do a similar thing at the end/beginning of the year.
|
 |
I used to write info on the spine with marker pen, but as the Dooctor points out - no spine now.
|
 |
I hadn't room for all the old mags (TGO & Trail). I tear out the routes, reviews and any other articles ( particularly Chris and Camerons gear ones in TGO). I keep them in file boxes. Just means a quick rummage through the box when I want a route or gear review etc..I suppose I should file them in some order but that would be a bit "not me"..

 |
Perhaps the spine has gone as glued spines cause grief in the recycling process - just a thought.
I've only just started buying TGO, but have years and years of Trail - it'd be fantastic if there could be a look-up. I find http://www.trailroutes.com handy for tracking down previously printed routes - look it up, dig out the relevant copy, etc, etc
|
 |
Unfortunately Trailroutes don't have the full set, just a sample from each copy. Oh, and never trust the GPS routes on the old walks. All they've done is created the routes by scanning off the OS map paths. As most ridges don't have an OS marked path the GPS they give usually has you walking on a bridleway 200yards off the ridge!!!!! I've grumbled to them but, surprise, no reply.
Also...... TGO - bring back the spine!!!!!

great idea, maybe it could be sold ,with profits to mountain rescue or conservation

 Great idea!
If finding space in the magazine is a problem (and I can see that it might be), perhaps an index could be compiled and made available on the TGO magazine page, and/or in the digital version? I suppose that might even encourage peeps who've missed a desirable article to purchase a back-copy.

 Bonjour, Slowman :-) Lol!

At the risk of coming across as a bit of a saddo, I've (partly) addressed this issue by creating a little spreadsheet with columns for Location, magazine, issue date, etc.
It was a minor pain to create for all the back issues, but a doddle now to update on a monthly basis. Using Excel means it can be sorted by any of the columns (so all of the 25 routes up Helvellyn from the last half-dozen issues of Trail can be grouped together).
It's not a perfect solution - certainly not as good as receiving the mags in digital format - but it can be a time-saver.

I am attempting to slightly get around having to dig through copies by scanning in the contents page of each one for quick reference later.
Not quite as saddo as Walking Baggy, then ;o)

...and yes, the 'Yorkshire Three Peaks insider info' was last in May 2006. Sorted.

If you subscribe to the digital TGO then it has a search facility, so no more poring through old copies, sort of takes the fun out of it though!
