The TGO Show podcast Number 2 is available for download from www.theoutdoorschannel.co.uk. Included are interviews with Kev Reynolds, Alan Hinkes, Judy Armstrong and a round-up of the Freidrichshafen Outdoor show by John Manning and Chris Townsend.
Also available for download is the first TGO Special podcast, an account of a recent trip I made to Mount Ararat in search of Noah's Ark. Did I find it? You'll have to listen to the podcast to find out – www.theoutdoorschannel.co.uk!

a recent trip I made to Mount Ararat in search of Noah's Ark. Did I find it?
A Noah doubled up in kit, is he a good role-model for a lightweight magazine? :)

Thanks I really enjoyed both shows. I would have liked a bit more on the Freidrichscafen show, not just on stoves. Thought you might have had a bit more on it in the print version.
Loved the Mt Ararat podcast. Hope you do more. Compliments to Bob on his production. I've listened to several US podcasts and they're nowhere near as good as his.
Are you going to do any TGO videocasts?
Separately, Cameron, I've bought your books your books on the Munros and best Scottish hill walks. Thanks for some great books that are helping me figure out how to go walking in Scotland next year. I'm seriously considering the TGO Challenge in 2008, but want to test myself on a less ambitious walk first, probably Knoydart.
Incidentally, shouldn't you change the photo on the front of the Munro Almanac? A cerise pink jacket looks a bit dodgy! You weren't subbing for Judy were you?

 Hi Robin,
There is more on the Friedrichshafen show - there're interviews with Andy Utting, of Terra Nova (producers of the Laser series of lightweight tents) and Andy Williams of Haglofs, both based around their European Outdoor gear awards ...
and the reason why there's little on the show in the latest issue of the magazine ( a mere three pages, again focussing on the awards) is, of course that the show hadn't taken place when TGO went to press.
We struck lucky with the results as we had them early and were able to present them to our readers in advance - though of course they were officially announced just four days before that issue hit the streets!
Fortunately, Chris, Cameron and myself are all time travellers and can get our heads around that... but only just!
Cameron's jacket did NOT win a European award!

Thanks for the kind words Robin, but fair production credit has to go to Cameron, that old dark horse, who did most of the production himself, with little help from a biscuit tin and a roll of sellotape!
I just top and tailed it!
Easiest podcast yet ;-)

I hope Cameron didn't wear his pink jacket to Turkey. My comment on the quality of podcasts was a general one rather than specific to the Ararat one (good though it was).
Liked the tarp test one, Bob. Look forward to the beginners guide to knots on your site! ;¬)

 Robin,
It's worth trying to get hold of Camerons (& Richard Else) Wilderness walks books for great 2/3 day backpacking trips in the highlands. Excellent routes and text.

Gosh, ecco. How nice of you...

I was quite relieved that there was no sign of the ark, I’m sure that if there were any Creationists amongst the group, a wee splinter of wood would have sufficed as evidence;)
I enjoyed the interviews - a real insight into people’s thoughts and feelings and what motivated them to do the trip.
I thought that Cameron’s Scottish accent combined with the local music was an interesting combination - really pleasing on the ear.
Great stuff:)

Many thanks for that Mistress. I think you're right about the splinter of wood. One of my interviewees, Tim, who believes in the Ark story, said as much himself. Afraid I just couldn't imagine elephants and giraffes stumbling down steep scree and rocks... but you never know!
|
 |
lol, perhaps the elephants and giraffes got a helping hand from the dinosaurs - they were all created on the same day apparently;)
One explanation put forward by the creationists is that the missing part of the mountain, which blew away forming Ahora gorge, may well have provided even easier access down.
I guess if you want to believe something badly enough, science has to take a back seat.
I’ve no doubt that mountains are spiritual places for many of us. I can imagine that the ark story was based on a real flood, but the Creationists take things a step too far.

Thanks, ecco, will track it down.
