I came across their websites www.slioch.co.uk and www.cioch-direct.co.uk. I'm seriously tempted to sample the made-to-measure experience.

I know they follow different paths, Gore-Tex and Paramo, but I'm not madly prejudiced for or against either

Does anyone have any good/bad/indifferent experiences of the service and the gear to relate?

Do you feel that they offer no significant advantages over off the peg or that they're the best thing since sliced Jamie Oliver (we can dream)?

I've got a M2M Glamaig jacket from Cioch Direct. it took about three weeks to arrive
and it's excellent.

I chose the Glamaig over the Paramo alternatives (Velez, Vasco, Viento), bacause its lighter by about 200g, its got a better hood (big peak and no poppers), it's slightly longer at the front, its cheaper - even when made to measure - and its not too warm for summer.

The Glamaig is only lined to the elbow so its only supposed to be a three season jacket (I've got a Paramo Alta for winter walking anyway), but I've worn it is cold, windy weather and never noticed any difference.

I've found it very comfortable across a range of temperatures, especially when worn over a merino base.

The Glamaig (in combination with Merino)is my best gear discovery - ever!

Hilltrek in Aboyne are P****o stockist and can do alterations. They also did a try before you buy option so it may be worth phoning them.
01339 886062. I've only bought 1 item from them but the owner was very knowledgable and helpful. He also believed in the gear he was selling. I suppose that's the difference when the owner is in the shop and probably does the buying.

I bought a Fionn jacket, made to measure, from Cioch 18 months ago, and I'm so happy with it that I bought a Marsco smock a year later. Now thinking about buying the trousers to go with them, and maybe the windproof too.

Because I am exceptionally tall, I often have no choice but to get made to measure to get clothing that fits properly.

It's good equipment. They're nice people to deal with. I feel it's good value for what you get, and I'll wholeheartedly recommend Cioch.

David, Scott, MoS, thanks for your comments.

Very helpful. It's all getting ever so tempting. Now if I can just find where the credit card's hiding (I'll just follow the sound of it whimpering)...

My OH has a windproof fleece from Slioch which he thinks is great. He has long arms, and he loves the fact that the jackets reaches all the way down to his wrists!

I've used Slioch over the years and had salopettes, a fleece and a windproof fleece (which I like, despite the flak the material gets here) made and couldn't speak highly enough of. Great staff, very helpful. Best of all, when I had a new fleece earlier this year they simply looked up my measurements and I was still on file - like having one's own tailor!

I think there's a concensus developing here.

Thanks to you all.

We called in at Cioch shop a couple of years ago whilst on Skye and my husband ordered their salopettes and has since had jacket and probably more which he hasn't got round to telling me about. I'm told it is just the best there is by him and others who are obviously thoroughly biased!
