It's amazing that using local stone costs £56,000 more than using imported stone!
Somebody's pockets are being lined, methinks.

 Where's Snodwon?
|
 |
 I think its in Welas
|
 |
It's the hill that supports Wales' highest slum..............soon to be replaced by the country's highest white elephant ;-)

Ah, sorry, guys, got me fingers in a twist.

8.3 million pounds!!! OMG what on earth is wrong with us humans? 8.3 million pounds for a stupid mountain top cafe that no one who actually goes up there really wants!
|
 |
 Jamie,
Are you sure you don't mean no one who actually WALKS up there really wants?
I am sure the non walking train-riders quite like somewhere to have a cup of tea and a nice sit down :)
The hills are for everyone remember - we wouldn't complain if 8.3 million pounds was invested in path up keep, trail marking, land protection etc.
Let 'them' have this one I say ;)

James, I see from your profile (I was trying to read your T-shirt), you have a habit of winning magazine competitions.
The plot thickens.
According to Kate, someone by the name of Snod, won a cafe. Own up now, was it you?
:))

This just gets worse. According to the on-line dictionary, snod is a mutation of snood, which is "A fillet, band, or ribbon, for confining the hair".
In other words, an effing buff!

Rob, I know where your coming from. I'm certainly not one of those people who hates Snowdon, its one of my favourites and I agree that of thousands of mountains why not let people who wouldn't normally get the experience to go up one do so.
However I do disagree with spending 8.3 million pounds to do so.

I am sure they will quickly recoup 8.3 million in the massive sales of Coke and ice cream :)
|
 |
Firstly 8.3 Million?? who on earth signed up to that contract? If they built a similar caff down in the valley it would not cost anywhere near that. Does it really cost that much to transport the materials up a hill on a railway that is already there?
Secondly 60% of the contract is local? Why not 100%? They built a whole mining industry up there in years gone by, and all from local material and labour.

 Where's Wales?

I can' believe how much the cafe is going to cost. I was just reading on the BBC about the 40th anniversary of the Severn Bridge whcih cost £8 million.
I know it was a long time ago but then we could build a bridge which at the time had the largest span in the world and crossed two rivers and now for the same money we can build a cafe (on mountain admittedly).

Not me, I have won the following from magazines/ newspapers: A holiday for 2 in the Faroe Islands.(Tiso) 2 tickets for the play Steptoe and Son.(metro) A gore tex jacket (Trail) Montain soft shell (Trail) A mountain bike. When I was little I won tickets to see the stage version of the Magic Roundabout. It was really good with a man crawling round in a Dougal suit and a proper train and everything.
But that's all I've every won. James, you've been stealing all my prizes!!
|
 |
Now where does one get a cup of coffee after conquering Snodwon?
|
 |
Out of the flask that you've carried in your pack as you walked to the summit?
(Seems to work OK on other mountains!)
