just got back from doing the walk where i put some new gear through its paces,terroc trail shoes,as far as support,grip,drying abillities go,these shoes are excellent,the only draw back seems to be a lack of cushioning for all the hardpack trails and paths(we did some bigish days)i think maybe the rocklites might be better for this trip,also pacerpoles proved themselves,i had never used poles before and the power these things give you going uphill is awesome,also the speed on the flat and help on the downhills was welcome,i am a definate convert i think,all in all an enjoyable trip.
I agree with you entirely on the Terrocs - great except for hardpack. I bought Roclite 315s after that and they do cope much better on hardpack, far more cushioning - BUT, after 10 days use (totaling only about 90 miles walked) the outsole was starting to peel away from the EVA (or whatever it is) mid-layer. I've sent them back to Inov-8 who are repairing them, but somewhat worryingly the chap there did say to me "they have had a fair bit of use". Well maybe we have different views but to me 10 days / 90 miles is not any amount of use for a £65 pair of trail shoes! What does anyone else reckon?
Edit: P.S. I'm not alone, I've heard at least 2 other folk report the same sole problem on the Roclites.
I've had the same experience with Roclites - but in my case the sole started to delaminate after one day. I've repaired them myself and am waiting to get home to test the repair. In addition, a pair of Mudclaws only lasted 150 miles.
There's been mention on another thread that Inov8 are working on the sole issue, but until this is confirmed, the Terrocs are the best choice, as the sole lasts.
