We check out Petzl's small but perfectly formed ultra-lightweight headtorch, or we will as soon as we find the tiny little critter.

I thought they were out next year, will have to re-listen to the theoutdoorschannel podcasts to find out when as they were covered in one of the early podcasts to do with some industry trade show Bob went to.

Just been in Chester F&T - they say they're expecting them sometime in the first half of November and it's a case of "everybody wants them and Petzl just haven't made enough".

Same story if you google them - Wiggle appears but it's only to pre-order one for expected delivery early November...

I contacted Lyon the other week and it sounds like they will in the shops during December!

And they are SOoooo cool! ;-)

If we are lucky Bob may have a special on these.
He's usually good on that side of things, when a new product comes out and all.

Can't wait until he updates his site to find out, and then I'll have to do that phone call and find where the wife has hidden my cards ;)

I assume that is a pre-order then.

UPDATE:Called them, they don't actually have any in stock. They said middle of November.
But still naughty of them to not make that clear on their site.
It gives the impression they are available to have now.

I'd also love to know how they justify more than £3 delivery for the item.
Well that's me being grumpy, and being spoilt from the online dvd world, where delivery is usually included in the price you pay.

I've been looking at the reviews of the E+Lite and wondering wether it could be used as a general or once every so often headtorch?

I know they are really design for use as an emergency light, however I used to use the standard Petzl Tikka for my hill walking and camping head lamp, as it was very rare I would actually need it when walking.

Would be good to leave my Tikka XP behind and take one of these instead, is anyone else thinking along the same lines?

Thats what most seem to think ,the man at BAC said that he had loads of folk in with the same idea. Mine is rarely used so why not carry a small lightwieght one ,for the use it gets it would be adequate .(in fact its probaly better than what I have now any way).

It partly aimed at adventure racers who have to carry a backup light, it's much better than the tiny Maglite that most carry. I would imagine trying to descent a Munro this winter using only the e+ would have the helicopters out.

JUst been browsing Bob's site again, he has been a busy bee the last couple of days.
He has a pre-release offer on them on his site these better not sell out before I get an order in at that price

Now I just have to remember to get Bob to send mine to work and not home so I can sneak it in ;)

UPDATE: Kate has discovered the new TK-Maxx in Farnborough, so I don't need to worry about sneaking it in :)

I think you could happily use the e+LITE as a general head torch which is what I've been doing. I think Petzl are being a bit ingenuous when they say it's for emergecy use. If it's for emergencies, why stick so many features on it?

I'll also add a note to the article saying that they're now expected in store in mid November. My original understanding was that they'd appear in October, but clearly that's not happened, so apologies for any confusion.

Well done Bob, I'll have to give this to someone to give it back to me for a christmas present though. I've promised not to buy any more kit, and have just been busted with an unauthorised Terra Nova Bothy Bag.

Supply update! Thought everyone had know this.

Just checked again with Lyon and there is only going to be ONE shipment of these before Xmas to all the retailers in the UK.

So whoever you choose to buy it from, if you want one for Xmas, then make sure you've got your order in.

Otherwise it is baggy stockings again this year ;-(

I notice Wiggle have updated their pre-order 'expected date' from early Nov to early Dec.

They might be as rare as hen's teeth right now, but once the deliveries actually happen it looks like they are going to be oh so common!

With it taking watch batteries I wonder how how useful it would be as a general torch instead of say the Petzl Zipka.

Certainly watch batteries are more expensive, less available and also I guess not available as rechargeables either.

What's the battery life supposed to be like on the E-lite?
