I have to say that I bought a Berghaus c7 65 plus 10 earlier this year in a move up from my old (generous) 35 litre pack and I have been struggling to fill it - even with supplies for a dog! I still wear it though because the back system is so comfortable and if I ever want to carry lots more clothes or food or something then I can.

Another vote for the KIMM (OMM)sac. Excellent hip belt with built-in zipped pockets. No good if carrying ice-axe & crampons though & you need to be ruthless if using it for a 2-dayer.

Was going to suggest the GoLite Jam, available with 3 back lengths. Probably too large though..it was ok for my 6 week backpack last summer on the SWCP, holding my tent, sleeping bag, stove & fuel, etc etc with Z Rest strapped on the back with bungy cord. Very light though, used in conjunction with an Exped XXL liner to keep everything dry.

Ive got a c7 pro series 70+10 and think its the muts nuts, i tend to cary most the gear when me and other half go camping and every time we have been there has been plenty of space left in it.

I tend to use it all the time as it compresses down well even when empty and the backsystem like tom says is very comfortable.

I also struggled to find something small and cheap that was comfy or fit properly without the waist strap being far to high.

I echo Moggys comment

"I also struggled to find something small and cheap that was comfy or fit properly without the waist strap being far to high."

At 6'2" i prefer to have the waist where it should be and not one that sits on my bottom ribs.

I look at things this way, try getting 70lts of kit into a 35ltr sack, then try getting 35lts of kit into a 70ltr sack, i know which i prefer doing.

I do own a 50ltr Lafuma infreno which is good but very uncomfy when rammed to the gills with kit and I on most occasions will take the extra 800gs with the 70ltr for comfort all day long.

Drew

If you're still looking - have you thought about a karrimor Boma 45+10?

They're tough old bags, & a decent size for most trips to the hills, as they are designed for climbing, if you're into this, as well.
Not sure if they still make them, as mine is a few years old now, but you can still get hold of them, via the internet auction sites, etc.

I've had mine for a while now and wouldn't part with it - mind you I've always been a fan of karrimor rucsacs. Just a shame they've had so many problems over the last few years, as they did some decent kit.

Not sure if their new stuff is as good, as haven't tried it of late - haven't needed to, as their old stuff lasted so well.
