Or about half?

Waterproof BMC Map Covers Snowdonia
Waterproof and tear resistant but half the weight of a laminated equivalent, the second of the BMC's mountain series is the first 1:40,000 map to cover the entire Snowdonia area.

Is that 'area covered by this map' graphic correct? If so shouldn't this be called Northern Snowdonia?

I was also thinking that. The lakes one is really useful because it takes the place of the four OS maps, whereas this map seems to cover no more than OL17?

If it's really just covering the area outlined in red on the picture, it must be a bugger to fold up neatly. Hardly a straight edge anywhere!

And it's stretchy? I thought there was a good reason that maps are printed on stuff that tends to resist stretching, i.e. to preserve the scale.

Is it a double-sided map, or map one side, info the other? Can you draw on it?

I've just had a call from the BMC who wanted to clarify their press release. They say the map covers the 'key mountains' in Snowdonia, rather than the whole of Snowdonia. Apologies if the info was misleading and thanks for picking it up James A.

Personally I consider the 'key mountains' to be in the south.

Key Mountains? Where's Cadair Idris, the Aran, the Rhinogydd? The new map covers the 3000s, but so does OL17. Sounds like a silly, unresearched press release to me.

John - surely it's "Rhinogau" isn't it?

or just Rhinogs if we stick to the english pluralisation...

But yeah - they've missed out the best mountains in wales by not including the south. The mountains in the north are great but they're rammed with people - I personally much prefer a day out in the south where I dont' see a soul.
