£55 RRP as reviewed on the Homepage
A quick google and Gaynors are asking just a rizla over £35...
I find it all very odd this pricing thing.

craggies pricing is fun. i've never paid full price for anything by them. their kiwi's are fantastic value for money at £20-£25 and the insulated kiwi's even better at £25! the latter, by the way, have a cargo pocket on this year's model, they didn't on last year's.

Agreed - can't beat the Kiwi's at those prices. Why they bother with the silly rrps on the web site I don't know - is anyone daft enough to pay them? I've ordered through the website in the past but only on sale stuff or with a 25% discount code like LE14 for example...

I paid £45 for the zipped one of these at Stuart Cunninghams in Keswick. Wish I'd gone to Gaynors :-( I have only really used it for lounging about and it is very non itchy even without washing which is good, but I did run in it the other day and found it warm and comfortable without being too hot even when very wet. Quite a nice relaxed fit. I am very pleased with it.

I'd guess the merino tops will be in the late winter sales for around £30. Two weeks ago I picked up the crew neck version for that price in a sale in the Craghoppers mini shop in Debenhams, Sheffield, but they were back at full price when I looked at the weekend! I can report, though, that after 7 days 24 hr wear nobody has commented on any pong and it's very comfortable to boot.

We did mention in the review that you may find it cheaper on the web, though most people will realise that anyway. Fwiw, even at SRP it's still cheaper than, say, Icebreaker and has a nicer collar too, but if you can find it for less, then it's obviously better value still.

Jake
I did a similar little test, and was a little bit disappointed with the smell around the pits until I took it off and realised that the smell was 100% coming from me yeugh! Hope you weren't eating!

This craghopper offering is very tempting, it actually looks like good kit from them for once. The price is very competitive too, have a look for the new Patagonia merino baselayers, a 230g/sq.m "mid-weight" is £70, and the lighter 145g/sq.m retails at £60!!! I think that's going a bit too far.

Thanks for the tip on this new Craghopper's zip neck from Gaynors. Arrived yesterday and is very nicely fitted. I will probably buy another! The only down side was when the wife said she would like one for Christmas and they don't appear to make this style for women, and Gaynors don't stock the small size. Which I assume I would need for a woman's 12. Craghoppers just sell a very girly and impractical, but fasionable v neck merino.

Ooh, I was getting all excited about this until you mentioned about no small womens one! Sigh. But thanks for the tip about the mini-Craghoppers in the Sheffield Debenhams - never knew that existed! Please tell me they have womens stuff there too! Di

Bought the zip top from Edge in Grasmere at the weekend for £40 and put it to the test on the Newlands Horseshoe on Sunday in howling winds. Wore it with a Sprayway windstopper fleece and a Berghaus Paclite Pro jacket over the top (no brand loyalty from me!)
Verdict - first class, not an ounce of sweat or smell and didn't feel the slightest bit cold.
Well worth the money.

Hi Diana Yes, the have a selection of women's gear at Cragghoppers, Debenhams, Sheffield.
AND it looks like the sale's back there on with the merino tops going for a tad over (gasp) £26! Small sizes were on the rails earlier this week too.
|
 |
fab, thanks I'll take a look! Di

 >Small sizes were on the rails earlier this week too.
Although the zip top is a men's design, perhaps it's worth a try? My other half tried mine on (an S since Crags sizing tends to be a bit large)and she found no problem with it (maybe because it's wool fabric rather than synthetic?).
|
 |
Worth a look. If it fits, who cares who it's designed for? Although my boyfriend does refuse to wear my pink fleece hat......
|
 |
BTW the Crags mini shop is tucked away in a far corner on the men's wear floor, just beyond the luggage dept.

 |
Talking off Craghoppers.......... Cotswold Rockbottom in Grasmere have the mens corey microfleece and a womens micro fleece which normally retails at £25 for a bargain £13 lots of sizes and colours (excellent stocking filler everyone on my present list has got one!) give them a ring on 015394 35778 sure they will send one or many out to you!

Didn't like this top. It is probably the worst bit of walking gear I have ever bought.
Maybe you should wear it without washing it ever, as when I did wash it it shrunk and is now basically useless.
Glad I didn't pay full price

Ian, This business about shrinking has been mentioned before. If yours shrank then it must be because you didn't follow the care instructions. I've washed mine quite a few times now and I've had no problem. There is a reason for putting care labels on clothing you know. Hand wash means just that and if you always use cool water (I thought everyone knew you should do that when washing handwash only wool) then you'd actually find it difficult to shrink any wool garment. BTW, where's the whisky?
