Hi,

Anybody else downloaded this yet?
I signed up for the email updates via the website then went to open the program.

It asks for some details when you 1st try it but wont accept my email as it says its already taken!

I've contacted mapyx but wondered if anyone else is having the same problem!?!

Cheers,

Sean

Subscribing for the email locks you on their server - I did the same - but I've another address which worked fine.
I've been on to support a few times over the weekend as I wanted to try the product (anything to get out of memory maps clutches!). They are having problems with the server connection, but at least the support is being manned by the MD! Email them and the response is normally pretty quick.

"the support is being manned by the MD"

Hmm - am I alone in NOT finding that reassuring?

Two ways of looking at it -
1) Small company who actually care about customers
2) Big company happy to farm out support to robots in call centres who would rather be somewhere else?

At least the response I've had this weekend is firmly in category 1 - and I've had lots of dealings in the past with other companies' muppets in category 2!
(..."computer says no"...)

Ive downloaded the mobile portion of quo and have to say all the emails Ive sent have been answer promptly by Uros Pecek and any problems sorted. Wish I could say the same for memorymap. Quo get a big thumbs up from me and of course a special thanks to Uros for patiently answering my mail.

Yes, I thought it a bit strange for the MD to answer my enquiry!
I didn't really understand what he was saying when he wrote
"The best is if you try to Create your Q account with info@mapyx.com
address and we will take care of the rest."

Do I just send an email to them or do I include all details including an explanantion?!?!

Thanks for the posts BTW.

sean, i had the same problem. i then switched off my firewall and it loaded just fine.

however, it keeps telling me now that i am not connected to the internet! even with switching the firewall off.

makes it rather difficult to buy something. the "play with new maps" budget may just get diverted elsewhere.

Hi everybody,

Yes - Mapyx is a small company and you can find out more about the people behind it here:

http://www.mapyx.com/?pg=page&cid=83&ctid=72

We're very serious about making Quo a real contender in this market hence all the directors take personal care of all issues - and that means rolling up our sleeves and getting stuck in.

Even though Mapyx is a new company we have many years experience in the geo-mapping software industry. Our development and support takes place in Slovenia and our sales and marketing office is in the UK.

Anybody who want's to get in touch on any non-support issues should contact me.

cheers, Dan

It's a good album. Mostly written by bass player Alan Lancaster.
Vastly superior to their later boogie-by-numbers efforts.

Having played with the Quo demo I was not desperately impressed I have to say. I use Anquet (which I like) and tried the other major one whose name I forget (didn't like).

The map in the demo is so large scale as to be useless in reality. I had problems trying to save a route. The rest of the functionality was not especially wonderful.

In this market, the software is "free" with the maps, but for Quo you have to buy the software without any maps. When you factor this in, the maps are not that cheap. Probably because of the OS licence.

The thing that bugs me about digital mapping is that the 1:25,000 is soooooo expensive compared to the 1:50,000; plus the fact that you have to pay such a lot to "upgrade". I have whole of UK in Anquet at 1:50,000 but am reluctant to buy any 1:25,000 (especially when the new stuff would likely be incompatible with what I have already got installed).

You're right to say that the Miniscale map we include with Quo is not practical for route planning. We offer this map for free (even though we still pay the OS a small licence fee) so that people can try out our software and decide if they like it or not. We then hope that people buy the maps they need for more serious applications.

Our PRO pack represents the best value because it's all our tools and a GB 1:50k map for £99 which we believe is cheaper than comparable products.

You're also right about 1:25k scale - the OS licence is much more than for 1:50k, that's why we sell individual tiles to try and keep the cost to a minimum - but the licence fee we pay is the same as all the products on the market so we're all in the same boat.

I like the fact that you can buy individual tiles. I have the entire UK on 1:50K using Fugawi and I very rarely use areas outside the North Yorkshire moors (near where I live) and the Lake District for trips over there.

If I had 1:25K available I would use it more for printing out specific routes instead of buying a paper map. As I only really use 2 areas I'd probably only download a few tiles.

Are the tiles available as requested areas, say around a centre point, or as a fixed OS map where you may need 2 maps if your route crosses onto the next map?!

So far as I know it's on a Quo grid - so you may need 2 maps (I needed 2 - but then the area I wanted was right across both).
If you (once you've got it working) go to "add maps" you can see the grid.

Thanks Twig.
Shame that, missed opportunity I think.
I'll have to see if the maps are any use to me then once I get it running.

Any chance this facility could be made available Dan?

Sean.
Have you tried TrackLogs? They have been selling site centred 1/25K maps (from 20K x20K) for quite some time now and I find them quite easy to use. They have functionality comparable with MM and others.
BTW a 20K x 20K costs £24.95.
