More on tents I'd say, but then again, I would!!

The article by CT on light weight winter camping was one of my favorites this month. (Although the "lighten up section" is the first thing I turn to every month.)
Sleeping like this is something I would definitely recommend. You only need one sleeping bag and wear undies in the summer, down jacket in the winter. Because you are wearing a down jacket in winter you can nip to the loo and not get stone cold.

Thanks Mike & Rocky - I may get it for a weekend read. I had a trial with computer mapping but don't think I got the best out of it.
I read a non-outdoor mag today thats next issue is April 07 - comes out on 28 March 07. As I asked before - Why does TGO come out a month early? It's confused me before when someones told me about an article in "this months TGO" & I haven't been able to find it because they actually meant next months TGO!

Popped into WHS at the Metro Centre in Gateshead - they had one well thumbed December issue & about 12 January issues. Of course the January issue has an article on Christmas gift ideas!
|
 |
Spiritburner, that's because the January issue comes out at the beginning of December! Don't ask me why though :-)

Chris - I had that sussed (I'm not as green as I'm cabbage looking!) - I was just hoping someone would tell me why! I believe Trail also do it. I know it's all relative but hey! ;)

.jpg) Re read Trail ,and found an article I missed first time around (dont know how its massive) about winter skills courses . It looks fantastic . This is something I must do, I hope there is another OM one for next winter.

Jonno, there may well still be a couple of places on the Winter Skills course for this Feb if you're keen - e-mail Dave Mycroft or pull up the Winter Skills thread in the Soapbox section if you want more details.

.jpg) Unfortunately I will be away ,working in the US when it is happening. Also I need a little time to gear up , I have the iceaxe (thanks Matt) but still need crampons ,Helmet, harness , decent gloves and Probaly a few other bits and bobs. It is my intention to steadily build up the gear for next winter and hopefully then I can have a go.
|
 |
Hey jonno, guess what - I may be able to help you out on some other bits of that gear too! lol :)

Jonno. The winter skills courses started as 2 people wanting to learn a bit and deciding to hire an instructor. Since then we've never had a problem filling the courses year after year. I strongly suspect we'll be doing it for a 4th time next year - I'll start the organising around June so watch this space :)
We're also looking at doing a series of more intensive sessions next year covering grade i - iii winter climbs. It'll obviously be more expensive due to instructor:client ratios but as always it will be done at cost price.
