Neil - In terms of The Land Reform Scotland Act 2003 camping is permitted in Scotland as long as you are sensible where you camp - away from sight of habitation and not on historical sites etc.

As for parking. Mull is as safe as many other remote parts in Scotland. Just be sensible and dont leave valuables on display.

Mull is one of the safest places in Britain to leave your car to go off into the hills. We went for a long weekend before christmas and you won't regret going, its beautiful and full of amazing wildlife.

One thing I would say is to be aware of the amount of deer fencing on Mull at the moment. I'd stick to trails and paths where possible or you could come across a 12 foot high fence in your way with no passage for a mile.

We walked the Treshnish Headland on the North coast and it was amazing, some of the pics are here...

Bad Wolf I found a huge buoy on the beach near Treshnish on Mull and found that it made a cracking space hopper. Then when I got back and was browsing the web one day I found out that was how the idea first came to the inventor!

Neil you will love Mull. Make sure you go for a drive at night and you'll be amazed at the things that cross the road or fly in front of you. And also drive round the shores of Loch Na Keal near dawn or dusk, I've always seen something, wether it be a pair of otters, sea eagles or even last month saw a wild cat!

Good wild camping on the south shores of Loch na Keal, between the road and the shore - open pleasant grassland with routes up Ben More starting right there.

I saw a Wild cat on Mull, and an eagle blocked the road for a while once too. Excelent place, just glad someone else saw a wild cat there as other people have said it probably wasn't as they dont live there (wild cats that is)????

If you come accross Highland cattle on the road, you just have to wait. They don't shift unless they want to!

Look out for the Poets in the Mishnish in Tobermoray.

(Excellent Photo's Jamie)
