Love them as they are (I've got a big arse!) & can't stand silly side pockets that won't take an OS map. Don't see me buying a pair of Mesa Pants in the near future.

Well I'm not confessing to a big arse, but I think they're great as they are too. I find the current pocket arrangement great and hate pockets down the side of the leg.
Damn, another option gone. Good job I've a few pairs showing no signs of wearing out!

I've no idea if I've got a big arse or not but the old ones were certainly comfortable and practical.

I agree the back pockets are weird, but I never use them anyway. (Give me more than one pocket and you can keep me amused for hours trying to guess where I've put my stuff).

Cargo style pockets are useless though, stuff just rattles around next to your thighs and they make you look like Ray Mears.

I like the old ones. The wee zip off sand gaiters were an interesting idea too.

Actually I use the arse map pocket a lot- best outdoor trousers I've owned. After 7 years the only place they're starting to wear is where the little keyring clip in one of the pockets is rubbing!

I'd just like to point out that my arse isn't THAT big.

i'll be keeping my eyes open for end of line bargains to increase my collection of them.
fantastic trousers. i like them a lot. the back pockets are great, things don't want to fall out of them and they're surprisingly roomy.

Well I've got two pairs of large longs in beige if anyone wants to make me an offer. Had about two years use on a regular basis. I know this is not the 'for sale' forum but before I put them on ???y.

Just email me.

Just to point out for those interested that for Spring 2007, there is a lighter version available, the Convertible Fast Pack pant. It's made from a lighter fabric than that used in the Pack pant which makes it less warm, lighter and more breathable. The details are practically the same as in the Pack pant although the rear pockets aren't as large (it's possible that the latest version of the pack pant had already smaller rear pockets). At least compared to the pconvertible pack pant I had, I see one big improvement: a redesign of the seams in the crotch area. In my pair, bought in 2005, seam layout was terrible and while meant to prevent chafing, it actually caused it. At least in the fast pack pant, but probably also in the pack pant, this has been completely redesigned so that the seam is much softer. I used the pant for the first time today and I haven't experienced any problems.
For those who really like the pack pant, it will be at least available in the US in fall 2007. I wouldn't be surprised to see it again in European stores later this year.

Just worn mine for 2 weeks on the SUW, and was after the pair with the cargo pockets - was that last year's model? Agreed, they are great.

Large back pockets great for maps. I seem to have pushed mine through into one huge @rse-pocket.

The leg zips were great for ventilation. No problems in the crotch department, fnr fnr.

I found some on ebay - but only in "Dark Sage". If anyone finds some 32" black anywhere, please, please, please let me know. . .
