enjoyed reading this review of a garment that I've been unsuccessfully chasing! I'm an XL or an XXL, so therefore condemned to just reading about it.

ps. anyone own one and can you get it on and off without the help of passers-by ?
I don't want to make any new friends!

You still not got one sb? Winter is vanishing fast! Hurry up! It's easy to get it on and off - at least for us boys - just unzip the zips.

Hi, Not sure whether you have been given this website or not and also not sure what size you are looking for but you could try:
//www.outdoorgb.com/p/montane_extreme_ladies_smock/

They have size 16 and size 18 listed as available, currently debating which size to go for myself.

As far as I can see this Jacket is a slightly upgraded and funkier version of the standard Buffalo Special 6 shirt. My wife appears to have commandeered mine, perhaps I should get a funky Montane version or something.
Does anyone know whether it is true that Montane was effectively started by a disaffected Buffalo designer taking his updated designs elsewhere?

No, as far as I know, Montane was started by some guys who'd used Buffalo kit and thought they could improve on it and make it a little more refined, though the principle is very much the same.

The Extreme Smock, I think I'm right in saying, is pretty much the oldest item in their range, but still works very well. One day maybe someone will design a pile-Pertex garment that looks a bit less like a sack, but until then ;-)

Actually I lied, Patagonia did pretty much that with their Stretch Speed Ascent jacket which used the same principles as pile / Pertex in a prettier package.
