Duncan, that's the same as the one I have for the Shuffle.

I probably wouldn't have bought the Shuffle myself. That mp3/radio looks good. I could do with replacing my micro cassette recorder for voice notes.

Strange to see Marshall McLuhan revived. I think there's a great deal of truth in "the medium is the message". It is hard to anticipate the effects of new media. Who foresaw texting as a major use of mobile phones? (Not Magicalia - it's objecting to the word!).

Good-oh, Chris. I got one of these (ahem) devices that works to the radio, but I've never used it in the car yet. More expensive than the lo-tech cassette solution, and needs a charge too.

Hopefully the player will come through b4 the SUW. I looks similar to the cheapo ones from the supermarket, but with higher capacity.

It is hard to anticipate the effects of new media.
Definitely. Keeps things fresh. Allows people to look at things in a new like. Keep on stirring the mix. I've a pile of books I took home with me from the library, and, well...more on that over the weekend. I've got to have something to blog about whilst t'others are off to TOS. Though I thing JH is going to Brokeback Mtn instead.

Well, I'm going to blog about pulks!

If I had to choose I would still go for books as my favourite media.

After magazines of course.........

"Though I thing JH is going to Brokeback Mtn instead.".......Duncan

Just in case there's any confusion...... let me put it another way; to add to the confusion on this thread, the JH in that link is not this JH. I was annoyed with TGO for printing out of context posts from this forum. When a new computer made OM ask me for a new user name I took the opportunity to become JH(and coincidentally TGO stopped printing excerpts).

My bad, JH. Sorry. Duncan.

I did wonder when you said "I'm currently designing a new product and have been giving a lot of thought to a website for it."

But I was too shattered last night to notice that JHee was blogging about travelling to TOS, but JH was still 'here'.

JH & Duncan, its not that I'm 'here' so much as 'out there' somewhere but even I'm confused now.

"My bad, JH. Sorry."

No need to be sorry. One of the reasons I like online forums is that a personality is created only from what a person says on that forum; not cluttered with baggage from the real world. So who I am in the real world doesn't matter, but I draw the line at being confused with someone who slept in a pool of diesel......... :-)

I find books the best source of information, on a pound for kilo basis.

Magazines have lots of diverse information in short and long forms, but aren't a good transport medium if you are looking for one in-depth piece (eg for the SUW, I would have to be 'lucky' enough to find an article about it from a collection spanning back a short period of time; but I could buy a book on the topic easily). I think the format is excellent for people like me when I want to get lots of 'shallow' information, some 'mid-depth' articles, and one or two 'deep' pieces.

Of course, there is also the issue of time-to-press, and returns on investment to take into account.

I agree with Duncan here. Books are the best for carrying when backpacking, both for information and entertainment (some manage to provide both!).

At home my study/office is disappearing under piles of magazines and shelves of books. I do like both. (And I write both as well of course so I wouldn't want to discourage anyone from reading either medium!).

Can someone please kill that New Zealand ad?

...thought it might just have been me that found the NZ ad annoying. From 'new media' perspective, I go to a website to read/view info, an dhaving something that 'gets in my face' just tempts me to walk away and get the info elsewhere. I tolerate it on OM (for the [del]eruldit[/del] smart comments), but some are concealed by the annoying tech.

I've noticed 'noisy' ads on some sites too (YouTube, IIRC).

The core business of the site should take pride of place, and anything that detracts from that certainly demotivates this user.
