> I wonder why the most savage criticisms tend to come from those who haven't the guts to put a real name to themselves?
Ah, that old internet chestnut.
Well, Jean (if that is your real name, of course), just because you put a 'real name' to posts doesn't really identify you in any useful way. I could have an account here where I called my self Joe Bloggs. It might appear to be a 'real name', but it wouldn't identify me.
However, since I keep a consistent internet identity over a number of forums (and have done so over five years), my posts are tied to me. If fact, after my first post here, one of the 'anonymous' types above asked me if I was CP from another forum. There are other captain paranoias out there, just as there are, I'm sure, other Jean Turners.
Since you have to be registered on OM to post comments on threads, there are no 'genuinely' anonymous posts here. Any posts people make under their noms-de-net are linked to their OM profile, and thus to a 'real person', with a persona, and a posting history. That's just the way it is with the internet.
With a bit of following of links on my OM profile, you can find out that my name is Kevin Beeden. Now, does that make me any less anonymous? No, I didn't think so.
<this isn't the rant it appears to be, BTW, just my PoV>
Ok, point taken, and apologies! Hadn't thought that through. I'm one of those elderly novice bloggers for whom kind people make allowances...... mind you, if I did want to know a real name, I wouldn't have a clue where to start looking, and like many, wouldn't have the time either.
I'm off out of e-contact for a couple of weeks, so won't be moaning any more for a bit.
Cheers & all the best, Jean (real name, and you're right, there are lots of us).
Not to worry, Jean; it's a commonly-made complaint, but, as you've found, one I don't support.
The little statistics numbers under each post give you an idea of how non-anonymous some posters are. I'm a mere stripling here, at around 3700 posts. Others, like the Ninja Pussy Cat, have around 25,000 posts...
Hope you enjoy whatever it is that's keeping you in the real world...
<whispers: this isn't a blog, by the way, it's a forum; a different thing entirely...>
Going to Japan - one son works there. We'll also (I hope) be climbing Mount Fuji en passant - and sussing out the north where he lives, for possible future skiing. Getting all unsophisticatedly excited!!
