Sorry but I'm going to be completely hopeless as I've only been there overnight. Having carried food in and not wanting to carry it out again we only drank in the pub. The shop was closed by the time we got there.

Don't rely on the shop for food etc it doesn't really have anything in stock. The locals phone their orders to the Coop in Mallaig and get it delivered by ferry. You will need to carry all your food and basic essentials but there is ample room on the ferry. If you have booked accommodation at Inverie they often pick up your gear for you from the ferry terminal. Sorry I cannot help with the prices in the Old Forge.

Does the pub do food at lunchtime, anyone?
Edit: OK, just looked the website. Seems like they do.

Pub does food practically from when it opens. If its the same staff as when we were there last May they are really friendly and helpful.
You'll enjoy the range of beers and malts they have Oot :)
Bob - ditto to what Lindsey said about the shop. It wasn't selling anything last year and we had stocked up at the Co-Op in Mallaig which isn't too bad for supplies. If you're coming up through Fort William I'd recommend doing most of your stocking up there in Morrisons as you've got a better selection.
I'm sure you'll have a great time
Edited to add that the meals in the pub are not too badly priced considering you are in the middle of nowhere, £7 -12 for main courses, and good size portions

Thanks for all the info, have looked at pubs website as suggested but no prices; but was wondering are the showers they have; are they for yacht owners or are they available to all ?

hope you have fun in the knoydart, beware of cuckoos and snorers.......................

.jpg) When I went, I found the Old Forge to be cheaper than some pubs in the Lake District, and better. Bear in mind though that all the beer has to be brought in by boat from Mallaig which is remote (compared to Cumbria) in itself. Bit of an old thread this!

I didn't find the Old Forge to be particularly expensive but then I prepared my own meals at the hostel. There's a rather nice looking restaurant near the pub as well.
All in all a night or two in Inverie will be well spent. I thought the place had real charm.

Realise this is an old thread but would also say that considering its location I don't see how anyone can moan about the prices of either food or beer. Superb place, even though it pished it down all weekend when we were there!

Massive goose eggs and bacon at the post office/shop and there are some of the usual suspects for corner shops but not much else. I can recommend the goose eggs though. The Old Forge is reasonable considering it's the only pub and you can get a shower there (but you must take your own towel), the meals are of a fairly high standard and pound for pound better than many mainland restaurants. I say mainland because for all intents and purposes Inverie is on an island. You never know what beer or whiskies will be available because it depends entirely on what is available on the mainland at any given time. Be sure though that there is a really good selection of both. I recommend The Young Pretender, an ale brewed on Skye when/if available. The staff are super friendly and genuinely so. Considering that their customers are a captive market, they are very reasonable. Atmosphere? Oh yes, in shed loads.

all i remember about the knoydart was a long walk in! but lovely scenery.... first time i ever back packed, god it was fun with the midgies!! ask big bob!!

However, if you want real beer, don't go in February. The landlord normally heads off to New Zealand then so its an ale free month! They weren't officially doing food when we visited in Feb 2 years ago, but as others have said the staff were very friendly & raided the freezer for burgers & chips. And the Guinness was pretty decent which made up (a little) for the lack of ale.
