Just wanted to poke the Health Nazi's in the eye..... I and my partner eat mayonnaise made from 'raw' eggs AND drink/use 'raw' milk AND even eat a large proportion of 'raw' milk cheeses yet we have NEVER had any problems. All this pasteurisation stuff is there to 'protect' people from the 'sick' Industrial food system.

My tuppence worth!

Like to provide some evidence that pasteurisation is a waste of time and a plot bedders?
Are you sure you know that food poisoning is caused by bacteria and not milk or eggs?

Oh and whole egg powder is light and surprisingly good for scrambled egg and omelets.

Eggs last for ages - not days, but weeks and weeks. I keep chickens, and looked into it, and basically they keep really well. Of course what you don't know is how long they have been in the shop/chain getting to the shop. According to DEFRA the best before date stamped on an egg is to be no more than 28 days from lay (and that is erring very very much on the side of caution). If you get them from a source you trust to sell them to you quick, then you'd be able to take them on a pretty long walk!

I hadn't thought of taking eggs backpacking.

I suppose I could stick them in the crystal glasses for a bit of protection
