I've been planning two trips this summer- one to wildcamp around Corrour and the other later in August on Knoydart - Ive emailed/phoned both estates/rangers re stalking etc - both replies were informative not only about stalking activities (as and when) but I was given suggested wild camp sites (perfect in every way) and all sorts of other info - it seems the landowners are keeping their side of the new dispensation - as a responsible wild camper I will do my utmost to keep mine

a reply from the lads at Knoydart:

The stag stalking season in Knoydart (and other estates) lasts from the 6th August until mid-October; hinds from October to January.

The actual areas where stalking will take place are not usually decided until the night before, or the same morning, as weather conditions can play a role in making a decision. Come into the office and speak to us when you arrive if you would like any help choosing a place to wild-camp. The fact that we are stalking should not deter you from camping here! Also, if we know where you are camping it makes it easier for the stalkers when planning their day.



A good place to wild camp is in the region of the Folach, at the base of Ladhar Bheinn - this is a central spot which provides easy accessibility to a range of hills. We also have some wild campers on Long Beach , near the village.

I've stayed in the "Bothy" at Barrisdale (didn't seem much point in camping out) and on the Long Beach down at Inverie.

Barrisdale has a fee for camping and bothy use.

The Long Beach is basically a stretch of grass at the end of the bay which the foundation accepts camping on. There was even a sign on the way into the village informing people there is no campsite but that they are welcome to use the beach. I guess this is in the village's interest as I think everyone who was on the beach that night at least drank in the pub, if we wouldn't have had to carry our own food back out again we would have eaten there too.
