So basically you carry salt around with you to put in this and it utilises just the Cl component of the NaCl to purify water? Seems quite pointless to me, why not jsut carry chlorine tablets with you? I think a more in depth explanation is needed here before I'm convinced.

That thing looks good rocky. Dunno why the bloke on the website is using one where he is, I would think the melted ice water he uses would be fairly pure!

That's what I thought... probably Everest base camp. Full of p*ss, sh*t and the Chinese building motorways!

Gregory, I suggest you read what Keith Conover, mountain rescue doctor, has to say in this pdf . He's obviously a convert.

The main advantage is supposedly the speed at which you can treat gallons and gallons of water, and the nasties that is successfully nukes. Not necessarily useful for all of us, but for group treks etc it could be very handy. I remember the time and effort required to filter-pump enough water for a days trekking at altitude... this & Steripen/UV treatments have a definite appeal.

I should add that I have had, cyclospora, amoebic dysentery & giardia so the fact that it kills all of these is a selling point!

Thats an interesting PDF file John, now i see the purpose of it, takes a lng time to get rid of cryptosperidium, 4 hours! Dont like the sound of that, my filter just removes it instanty, if they could combine that sort of filter into say an MSR minworks, and you could just turn on the electrodes for a couple of pumps to send some of that purifying solutin through, and that would wipe out the viruses, that it doesent take too long to kill after the filter has got rid of everything else.
