Why stop there? We could have an all Britain Coastal path, we'll probably get there in a century at the current rate of path designation anyway.
Or, specially for Tony, an All-Wales path, it'd clear a nice strip ready for when we build the wall.

This post follows on from the English Coastal path announcement earlier this year and it was featured on this forum.
There was a question at the time as to the situation in Wales which wasn't clear then, therefore I thought I would make this post as I couldn't find the original one !
OM techies - get that search facility sorted please!)

If you look here there's a definite case for some linking up so maybe it couldn't have to follow right on the coast. Link the South Downs way to the South West Coast Path and then to the bottom half the Cotswold Way which could link to the South of Wales and you'd have a huge chunk.

Although it has hardly registered in the news, the enabling legislation for the English Coastal path, the Marine and Coastal Access Bill is currently going through Parliament. The snail like process is decribed in detail here with FAQS here . It will also give the Welsh Assembly powers to legislate for Wales. One of the main points is that there won't be a continuous trail, the bill fudges the issue of estuaries and it is unlikely that there will always be access from the mouth of a river to the first bridge. Apart from this little problem it is planned that the path should be complete within ten years.

Good, by then all the Russian oil-slick oil damage might have gone and it will all be nice there again!
Story here.

 AFP News report too.
Things are looking bad for the short term for coastal walks in Ireland and Wales, if the big oil spill hits the coastal areas rather than dispersing at sea.
