 For that kind of money I'd rather take the heated North Face jacket. It seems incredibly cosy. But then again I'm also a died-in-the-wool fan of electric underblankets. What I wonder is, how long will the jacket last before the heating threads break? Can I throw it in the washer? Will one crampon-aided misstep mean that I have a very, very expensive unheated jacket? Can any cat help but adore me when I offer it a heated lap? These are the important questions that I hope this site will be able to answer.

 Yes, you can apparently just throw it in the washing machine. Cats will do whatever they want, that's cats for you. You may be aware that there's a moggy on the BIKEmagic forum - BBC - if you want confirmation of that. It's a nasty piece of work though, so I'd steer well clear if I were you.

I'll stay away from that one then. If Richard doesn't have access to a cat for testing purpose, I'm sure the kitties in my neighbourhood would relish the opportunity to do what they can in the name of science. I'd be happy to aide the cause by wearing the jacket.

Bwaoh more 400 quid shell jackets around I just recall two brands who named themselves after an extinct animal.

 I was getting dissapointed in the dead bird as they were looking like being 'trumped' by other people, but looks like they've still got it with one thing @500.... Hesistate to think what a jacket from them in stretch pro shell would cost  (Several others very close but stuck on 475. Norrona will very likely bust 500 too if they ever do something in stretch pro shell.). The price differentials in waterproof shells really are pretty terrifying, certainly unusually so as outdoors stuff goes.

Well, it seems they've added a few more resonable designs since I first looked. When they launched, it was with products such as a Windstopper Blazer, which seems pretty preposterous to me...
