Hey guys, has anyone used the Nepa maps for Nepal, specifically Around Annapurna 1:125 000 and Annapurna base camp 1: 50 000? Are they accurate?

Also, does anyone know, or know of, a good place to find the magnetic variation for the Annapurna region of Nepal?

you don't need a map or compass.... the top is uphill and everything else is the way down

I have trekked in the area and used very basic locally available maps and the help of a local guide. These days, I would imagine that reliable maps are available thanks to the satellite images of the area.

I'm gonna do the Annapurna Circuit. I realise the path must be very well trod but i quite like maps and was just wondering if there were any reliable ones

For the circuit itself, I can see how maps would be 'pleasing' but they aren't that essential. I'd love to return... it is fantastic!

Just buy them out there - more map shops than you can count in Thamel.

National Geographic Annapurna map looks good - can't vouch for it's accuracy. I think Stanfords have it.

John

Pop me an email with your address on I have one you can have. Its good to have a brows before you go and it gives you some orientation when you are there as to what the next village is etc.

I have just got back from 5 weeks trecking in nepal. Thamel has 1000's of map shops. I also used the lonely plannet trecking in the himilayers book which had quite a few usefull maps

Also magnetic veryation is unnessisary and quite pointless if your navigating properly and have broken down your rout into sensible legs?!?!

You can have my map of the Sanctuary, if I can find it. Bought circa 1982, it has Annapurna in completely the wrong place. Sadly the paper was too thick and sharp to use for toilet paper
