Great news for those people in London, I love the Paramo bits of kit I have.

Hurrah! Anyone want to come down for a Paramo party?

Another brand to add to the list turning it's back on the retailers who have supported them from the advent of Paramo.. By going to supply directly to the public. Bring on the demise of more outdoor shops potentially....

Echidna... How often have Londoners moaned on here that they couldn't find Paramo gear anywhere in London? So where's the support from London retailers, or have I missed something? Seems to me that this is a good move, since at last there will be at least one outlet in the nation's capital that's able to supply the goods!

erm...you can't see paramo anywhere in london. so how do 8m londoners ever get to know about paramo, not to mention the huge numbers of tourists? how does that affect shops elsewhere? i think the shop is opposite the rohan shop.

Hi, I'm one of the Paramo team working on the new store in London. Just to make it clear we are doing this store with one of our long term independent retail partners. We are working with Dom and his team from Rock On who have extensive knowledge of both Páramo (selling it and as end users) and working in the outdoor trade within central London. We certainly have not turned our back on our retailers and this isn't just a cut and paste of the traditional direct sales model. On a day to day basis you will be dealing with the Rock On staff but with all of the support that we at Páramo can provide. We have traditionally dealt with the Independent retailers and for most of them it is simply impossible to make London work. This project has been in development for literally years (with Dom) and we both believe it is now time to make it happen. Dom and his team will also be providing what I believe to be one of if not the best choice of climbing equipment in the south. Rock On has a couple of other stores in the South with others planned in the future. Please feel free to give us a shout if you'd like to know more about the how's and why's.I hope we can provide all that you guys want, please keep the feedback coming.

Where I live, it's almost as if every other town and village has a stockist dealing in Paramo kit, so it is a bit odd that London stores have been blind to the product for so long. It's even quite noticeable on the streets in my town, especially since we had our first frosty morning of the winter the other day!

Paddy I can see it from your point of view, like you it seems like every small independant dealer I visit stocks Paramo (which I think is great). From reading this forum and looking on the Paramo website they have been missing out on sales in the London area.

About time to, well done the people at P. Will be much easier getting up west than having to drag out to Suffolk or Cambs.... Parky you going to ask for the Loyalty points to be back dated????

Just to reiterate what Skippy says above, Paramo says that the relatively small number of independent outdoor retailers within the M25 has lead to the shortage of Paramo stockists in London and the South East and this was the primary motivation behind the new Covent Garden store rather than a desire to increase margins or similar. Fwiw, the TNF shops in London and Manchester are also cooperative ventures with retailers though I think I'm correct in saying that the new Berghaus store at the Metrocentre is solely owned by the brand.

Paramo are to be congratulated on this one, I think. Time and time again there have been complaints here that you can't find Paramo in London, for whatever reason. Rock On Paramo...
|
 |
Good on yer! took me a long time to buy any, because i couldn't check the fit. Didn't know Rock On stocked it tho! [the climbing blokes, yes?] D'you get a special discount if we turn up wearing gitex, and then agree to burn it in the street outside shouting "blast you, out! out! damn plastic bag" etc etc ? anyway, roll on the 26th.

Hi All I am also looking forward to seeing proper reresentation for Páramo in London, obviously. I would like to reassure retailers in the rest of the country that this exercise is not going to undermine them in any way. we took the decision purely because of the lack of coverage - and to be a significant brand it was absolutely necessary to be in London. Here are a few benefits that I can think of for both retailers and consumers: 1. Once people have tried Páramo, they tend to buy more of it . so the London shop will not only give people the chance to try it, but also will strengthen demand for Páramo across the country. 2. Having more direct contact with consumers will help us to be able to finesse the products, which should be good for everyone. 3. We can try things out in terms of customer service that we may then be able to roll out to retailers later, if they work well. Anyway, as someone said, it's about time!

Just keep the chavs out OK? A life size cardboard cutout of Janet Street Porter in the window ought to do it

I've seen a submarine launched, I've seen a destroyer launched, I've seen a rocket launched but I ain't never seen a shop launched. I gotta be there!

TNF shop in Covent Garden is indeed a joint thing with the people who have the "orange" shop ski shoppe type place with the ice climbing "chute" whose name escapes me at the moment (Ellis Brigham?) (and is opposite from their "main" shop). Nearest Paramo retailer to London is in Reading I believe - at least that's who I've used in the past. Would be good if there was a Paramo place in London. W. Edit: Not that I really need anymore paramo since I can't see my existing stuff breaking any time soon though I do keep getting tempted by the idea of a velez smock...

now there's an idea about the loyalty points.. yep, the ice wall is in ellis brigham. most of the staff are sent in there to freeze their brains.
|
 |
I don't know whether it was new or not, but a friend mentioned seeing a Paramo jacket he wanted in the shop at Mile End Climbing Wall.
|
 |
Good luck to Dom and his crew. Paramo is excellent kit, all end users know that, and its been screaming out for years to have an outlet in Central London. Very good line about the Ice Wall and its affect on the perceived knowledge of EB staff. I went in there the other day, and the poor lass I asked a simple question to must have just come out of her stint..... Scary, and to think consumers give em' their (sometimes) hard earned cash.

popped into the shop last evening. great to be able to see the whole range, have a feel and a try on. mm! the aspira smock is rather nice....(down boy) had a nice chat with skippy (sorry i just can't remember your name) and a whinge about a few things. didn't manage to escape the shop in possession of all the money i went in there with though. i was told that they intend to feature their special edition stuff there. so i guess the store will be a "flagship" for the brand. and it's so close and easy to get to..........
