Snowdon MRT are planning to put them on rucksacks and dogs so that if a member of the team puts a rucksack down in the dark - or indeed a dog - they won't have to waste any time working out where they put it when they want to move on again.
The dogs might not be too impressed, being made to go around looking like a disco!!
I agree - nothing new here. I've had a rear bike light with 7 leds and a clip for clipping it to my bag for 10 years - and its only had 2 sets of batteries! It must be that futuristic elastic headband thing thats impressing folks!!
Now if only the laminated patch inside the stretchy back section on my Osprey Talon wasn't peeling off.
Come to think of it, isn't it weird that rucksack manufacturers started adding such things to their sacks a few years before Petzl invented the flashing red light?

I'm sure I remember a commen in a thrad on here from a rescue team member who had had a headtorch fail and then had become lost looking for their aboandoned rucksack. On the other hand, once a hill is tunred into mass of strobing red lights nobody will have a clue what, or who, is producing each light.
