took him to 8400m before he turned back in poor conditions.

Erm, I thought he suffered a heart complaint?

And returning to Everest, somewhat lacking inspiration?  OK, no doubt it'll raise lots of money and the media will lap it up, which is of course the aim.

I am fortunate to know him (remotely) he is utterly driven and an amazing bloke. I cant claim to be a freind of his mind. You have to remember that adventuring is his JOB not a pastime. so he tends to push further than most would.

Kenton Cool -: “I'm quite an arrogant person - I freely admit it. If you want to climb the mountain of your dreams, you do it with me.

”Ranulph Fiennes will summit Everest this time. I will personally make sure of that.”

What a tosser. Presumably he is going to control the weather? And Fiennes heart too? What does he propose doing differently to his mate Ian Parnell who was guiding on Fiennes last attempt on Everest?

Aw bless, the fella's a guide, he's just promoting his business and to be fair, no-one ever got up a mountain by starting off with the idea that he wasn't going to.

Interesting statement from Kenton considering the long ongoing debate about everest and peoples' dreams of getting to the summit, thou i don't know in what context or what else he said that isn't printed here so a bit stupid to label him a tosser.

As Jon said - no-one ever got up a mountain by starting off with the idea that he wasn't going to make it.

Wish both the best of luck and i'm sure they'll do it.

That's true Jon.

So presumably since Kenton has guaranteed they will summit then Ranulph should be due for a nice load of compo if they miss out?

Fiennes is too old and to medically unfit to be able to summit.

I hope he causes me to eat my words though because he is one of the few human beings I admire greatly.

kenton had told a very close friend that he was never going back to Everest again, but now that he needs some money and a bit more fame (£100,000 plus summit fee), he has talked Ran into going back to Everest and that he would have no problems on the South side....(obviously its lower from the South)....yes....he is making lots of dosh and the lectures are rolling in and also yes...Ran will probably have a heart attack as he has pneumonia and bronchitis at present and just had a cancer op!

not the fittest cookie in the tin... (p.s.. Marie Curie was the 6th charity he tried to get, the previous 5 turned him down....they have the biggest marketing dept.

His sponsor Paul Sykes has threatened to withdraw sponsorship if he allows his wife to jeopardise the expedition and Sykes and Marie Curie are in full knowledge of his state of health.......MONEY MONEY MONEY....MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND.....

but it doesn't let knackered lungs do altitude!!!
