I'd especially like to hear from Jon on this one, as I think he's tested both?

How do these two compare? Is the Nitro significantly more stable? Is the extra ten litres or so the Event has over the Nitro useful or not?

What's the back like on the CE? Is it 'cool', and can things stick into your back through it?

The CE works for me. I haven't tried the Nitro, but the CE has carried loads far larger and heavier than for which it was designed and I have always found it comfortable and never have I had anything sticking in my back.

As for sweat well I sweat like a pig anyway so I am probably not the person to say what's what there.

Now the cool thing, well I have one so they MUST be cool...

Dare I just ask why you want to know Dan, it's not like you go walking anymore is it? You said you didn't want to a while back.

I want to get back into walking! It's true, I haven't been out for ages, but the weather is brilliant and the mountains look fab. Plus I went for a small walk on the Carneddau with a friend on her birthday back in Feb, and the views took my breath away, just as they always used to.

I just can't face faffing around with a heavy pack designed for winter work and climbing, or my stiff & heavy boots (this all what I said on the other thread I know).

I feel that, if I got a nice light pack and bendy shoes that didn't weigh me down, so I felt lighter and 'free-er', I'd really enjoy it once more.

I do miss walking with the uni club though. If I could've kept going out with them, I'd never have stopped walking. I wouldn't be suprised if secretley you think it's probably my fault I fell out with Zoe, especially after my recent performance on the forum. Honestly though, she is a difficult character and other guys have had the same experience. And don't forget that e-mail she sent me that I posted up here - scary, huh?

But meeting new people every week, nice big groups and the thanks you get when you led a really good walk were all great. But that's just not available to me anymore.

Anyways, back to the question at hand!

Dunno if I'm just being blind or something, but for the life of me I can't find the Countor Event on the Lowe Alpine website, either the UK or the international version. There's still the Countor Runner, and a whole host of new (and v confusing) 'active' packs.

Has it gone out of production?

Dunno, if it's not there, then it's possible it has...

The Nitro is exceptionally stable and the compression system is fantastic, but it's quite small and lacks pockets on the waist belt, which I really like. In a way the closer comparisson to the Contour Event is the 64Zero, which is closer in size and also has belt pockets. They're all lovely, he said irritably, and went to bed.

Test of the 64Zero next couple of weeks.

There's a LA CE on e-bay, and I was thinking of getting it. But it's already up to £30, with a day left in the auction. So I could either get someone's (well-used) second hand one, or a brand new one for £15 more. Right....

BTW, does the small-ness of the Nitro ever become a problem?

It would if you tried putting something big in it....

I have a CE and will not be buying another, nothing wrong with it, just prefer a 'traditional' opening after using the CE for a few years.

Aye. The trouble with zip openings is that you cannot easily overfill it. At least with a trad clippy-clippy closure you can have a go at overstuffing the sack.

I so still love my CE though.

The CE has been replaced by the Endurer, with 'wing compression' system and roll-top closure. It's a nice looking sac, but I'm concerned that the roll-top (ie dry-bag style) closure might be more off a faff.

Psst, Jon, I'm nearly certain to get a 64zero, couldn't give us the inside line on it could you? Are there any show-stoppers?

Had a quick look at the Endurer yesterday. Compression system looked good and the back system had been tweaked. Always find on my CE my back got really sweaty so slight 'air tunnel' effect added to the Endurer should be useful. Hip pockets don't look as big as on the CE and it didn't seem quite as light, although I haven't checked the stats so don't take my word for it. Roll top looks ok, don't think would cause any problems, but equally not sure there's much of an advantage. Really like my CE, but the Endurer is worth a look. If the extra bells and whistles work , great, but need to make sure they're not just gimmicks.

Cheers for the info Greg. I've decided that 35l is too large, especially after checking out a 64zero and deciding it's too big. A Nitro would suit be best I think.

But has anyone seen a Nitro, er, anywhere? I can't find one in Bangor or Llanberis. Nor can I see one in the 'Shopping Partners'. Will have a look in Betws-y-Coed next time I'm biking down there.
