Hmm, I thought the light version was going to still have the function of making the head tilt so it stows away like the old one but it seems thats one of the weight savings. I still don't think any of the more expensive stoves around £50 like the Primus Micron or this are as good for the money as a Coleman F1 at £20 or even MSR Pocket Rocket.

I've got the old one and i think it is much better. The tilting function was one of the reasons i bought it. You fold it flat, place it in it's neoprene pouch, and it fits into the hollow under a gas cartridge. Bungee's hold it in the hollow under the cartridge. Pure design class.

It's really neat, think better quality Coleman F1. It does have a tiny pack size.

I must admit it does look excellent and if it was £20 cheaper I'd upgrade to one from my F1 but I don't think there is £20 difference in the two. If the tilt mech was still on it maybe. I would imagine the feet are much more secure and grippy than an F1 too which can be slippery sometimes. If they took £15-£20 off the price then I'd buy one.

Yeah the lack of the tilt mech is a pity; that adds the charm to me.

Brunton in the US do a very similar unit; albeit a LOT heavier...

"It's really neat, think better quality Coleman F1."

I should hope so at 2½ times the price.

Wow! It's a whole 3 grammes lighter too but even though it is, I can't see me paying £50 for any canister top stove.

These were fantastic cannister-top stoves and available for around half price before disappearing completely.

Dispense with the peizo igniter and it weighs just 82g

Disappeared? I don't think so.

It's still around, look here

and here

here too!

Could go on forever

Sadly nowhere near half price.

the one you're pointing out is the Markhill Peak Ignition not the Camp 3 (branded by Outdoor Designs), hence it's not half price.

I know they're identical - that's because they're both made by Kovea of Korea.

and yes, I'm sure you could go on forever.

I switched to a Markill PI last summer. It is a lovely thing.

It's amazing how many products come out of the same factories. "Happy Outdoor" are worth a google.

the OutdoorDesigns Camp 3 (or Markhill Peak Ignition) gets my vote of "Most Tactile piece of Equipment" of all time.

Yeah, it will be £40 though, not £50. I have a Coleman F1 & nothing against it but I can bend the pan supports in half with no effort at all. It is a flimsy stove, I think this could be a stunning little stove for £40 also I imagine if the Crux is anything to go by the build quality will be good too....

Hi Echidna,

I can confirm that the SRP of the new Optimus Lite will be £40.

The idea behind the Crux lite is to offer the stove at a competetive price point, keeping to the original build quality, & also importantly saving weight.

Stock should be hitting the shelves of your nearest retailer by the end of this month, with the rest of the new Optimus range.

Regards,

Iain - Optimus UK

I also use a Peak ignition as reccomended by Bob at backpackinglight.co.uk. I took it into Tiso's in glasgow to get gas for it (wasn't sure if the threads on the gas tins were standardised) and I thought the salesman was gonna get a hard on over the stove!

I googled "Happy Outdoor" and it didnt throw anything usefull up? the fourth result is sommat about Marijuana seeds

I guess you have to be careful about what you put into search engines unless you want unsolicited results

Why on earth would anyone even think to bend pan supports in half, though I take your point about the superior build quality of the Crux.

Hey, now they are down to just £40 I must rush out and buy a couple.

Exactly, they bend at their own free will, so I binned mine & i'm not Uri Geller.
