Version 1.15 was being distributed by post, on SD cards. It includes the facility to obtain future firmware updates from their website. I suspect the distribution may have been paused while they sort out a further minor issue. I think many of the staff may also have been away at the Outdoors Show last weekend. There is a comprehensive Satmap forum at:

http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=133

which seems to attract comparatively up to date noise.

I was chatting to Richard from Satmap at the Outdoors Show, the gist of it was that the new upgrade was too substantial for downloads so it's going to be available on card only. On the plus side, what he told me about the improvements both to power handing and some of the user features make a lot of sense and I think will filll in a few of the problem areas they've encountered. To be fair to them, I get the impression that they've been working flat out to sort the upgrade and the power issues in particular, so that may explain why they sometimes seem unresponsive.

Hmmm... anyone know how big their .exe is? (or .jad or whatever they're using for their code).  Maybe it's time to re-think the structure of their binaries to allow modular upgrades.

Or maybe they've changed their map data storage format... now that would need a card transfer.

The manual advises me to back up i.e. copy my sd cards. I assume I register my satmap get a user password and can then do this, since it doesn't just copy. Has anyone actually managed to back up sd map cards or am I whistling in the wind on this.

yep. use satsync and just copy the files out. the maps are copy protected by the card i.e. they can only be used on the card they were supplied on.

I have been using the SatMap Active 10 for a few months now and am loving the functionality that the unit provides but am hating how often I have to swith batteries! I have entered the UK IronMan triathlon and have been using the active 10 to scout out and navigate new training routes most weekends. It has been great at keeping me on track but I only seem to be able to squeeze 6 hours battery life out of it before a charge or battery change. I am going to mess with the power save options now and see what I can find!

i'm a bit puzzled ross. in the review you say you get 10hrs but only 6hrs above?

setting the screen turn off certainly improves the battery time.

I use three 2700 mah rechargeable batteries in my Satmap and get about 18 hours use in advanced saving mode.

Been using the Active 10 for a while now both for hiking and for cycling and I honestly cannot imagine walking or training without it. Easy to use and fun 5/5
