More questions!
Firstly, in the Paddy Dillon book it suggests bringing sheets for the huts, will sheet sleeping bags be OK?
Also, on the Lluc monastery web site it says you have to stay for at least 2 nights. Does anyone know if this is true?
Thanks!

I have stayed one night at Lluc and the booking system still lets you book one night.

Sheet sleeping bag ok. Is there a booking system? I had to send an email. I only stayed one night and I found it an anticlimax. Should have stayed at the hut.

Lluc - I've always found it great, but the food in the 'top' restauraunt by the font is the better...

Thank you! I partly asking about the monestary as I don't tend to sleep too well in dormotries. I'm certainly looking forward to the walk!

I like the monastery accommodation. I first used it before the nearby refuge was built, and when the old campsite was really quite a mess. I've had a look at the new refuge and new campsite, and they're both absolutely fine, but I still like the monastery. I've never had a problem getting into the place, even when it's busy at religious festivals such as Easter, when people are queueing at reception to get a room, and I haven't even made a booking! I've always found them most obliging.

Thanks Paddy. I expect I'll go for the monestary.

The first time I stayed at the monastery, it was this time of year, early January, and there was an incredible thunderstorm and the rain poured all night. If I'be been on the old campsite, I would have been flooded out, and the refuge hadn't been built, so there was nowhere else to go. I really enjoyed walking through long corridors and covered cloisters while the rain lashed down outside and bolts of lightning ripped the night sky. Worth every cent!

Well - I will eat my earlier words; just tried to book one night in April (pre-Easter but in that period) - they said a minium of two was required; but that I could stay for one night in March. Would not say why. I doubt they will turn you away if you just turn up - I will find out it seems!

 |
How odd. You'll have to let us know how it goes. Are you walking the whole route?
|
 |
Odd indeed. No - I am doing a different route.

edwin wrote ( see) ...the food in the 'top' restauraunt by the font is the better... An English couple walking the GR221 invited me out for a meal at Lluc. I was told to be ready by 8pm, but I didn't know if it was going to be the restaurant in the monastery or not. Anyway, I got a knock at the door and was led out of the building, and up towards the top restaurant. However... not all the way... since the gas stove was already set up on a picnic bench and the water for the pasta was just coming to the boil!

Hi, Paddy, confused is the Gr211 now on open completely? I am waiting for book to be delivered. Cheers John S.

John I walked the whole length last year with no problems. I understand that there is now an alternate route which cuts out Banyulbufar and a fair amount of road walking and joins the original at Esporles.

Just for info; the Hotel L'Estada listed in Paddy's book as a stop over in Esporles is closing. Or at least that's what I gathered from this email:
"Dear Elisabeth; Due to the actual crisis our Hotel is due to close its doors the next 1st of March therefore we can not attend your reservation, sorry for any inconvenience. We can recommend other hotels in the outskirts of Esporles with magnificent location.
La Posada del Marques and Finca Son Quint.
We apologize for any inconvenience and we wish you a pleasant stay in Mallorca. Yours sincerely
Judit & Diego"
I've booked at a hotel about 1.5km away from the town.

I've been walking on another Spanish island for the past five weeks... However... John... no it's not 'officially' completely open, but there's no problem walking the bits that have yet to be signposted and waymarked. Pedro... yes, there's a loop that avoids Banyalbufar, since the huge estate at Planicia was bought by the government. I feel it's a shame to miss the village, as it's so cute! Lizzy... thanks for the info about L'Estada. It used to be a simple hostal, then became an expensive hotel, and I reckon they priced themselves out of the market.

Hi im going to Mallorca on 15 March. Do you konow is there now a snow on route from Lluc to Tossals Verdes?
|
 |
Well... I was in Gran Canaria and saw a weather forecast at the end of February that showed thunderstorms and snow in Mallorca. I checked a few days ago with a pal who lives there and he said that there was a bit of snow on the mountains. No idea what it's like at the moment, but if I had to make a wild guess, I'd say it would be walkable. I'm heading next-door to Menorca, which is much lower, and won't have any snow.

 |
This time last year there was freak snow and it hit the headlines - you can google it. I went a week later and it was all gone. I am not aware of any relevant headlines this year.
