Having read the description of your "light" weekend i was hoping for a review of the Race Raider tent and this new fangled fabric

Pat, it'll be on site tomorrow. As ever the answer is along the lines of yes, but...
Anything in particular that you wanted to know?
Good job Jon, fun article & inspiration to shave off a few more ounces.
Single wall tents, it has to be hellish in wet & cold conditions? Add just 400 grams and get a Nallo 2, it's amazing.
And if it's not full summer, I'd at least bring a thermal layer and a microfleece, just in case..
I could have burned my 200 gramme plus paperback novel to stay warm.
Normally I'd have carrried a microfleece as well and gloves, but it was so nice during the day that I made an executive decision not to bother. If the sleeping bag had been slightly warmer, it wouldn't have been a problem. That's an interesting idea for sure, but it needs some modifications to make it work properly I think.
More on the tent tomorrow...

And Jarl, yeah, the inside of the tent on Saturday night featured blobs of frozen condensation... Nice, but from experience I reckon it would have been worse with the old Gore-Tex bivvy fabric.
The old stuff was only really effective in very cold, very dry conditions. I've used a single skin Bibler tent in the Andes where it was fine, but wouldn't want to use it over here.

Nice article, and useful to consider just what you can leave out because we don't usually get to buy the lightest kit each time we want to go lighter. It's a case of using the older stuff and leaving things out. It could go too far though....
Another suggestion shamelessly nicked from the Book of the Bivvy
Leave out the cooking equipment and all of the prepacked food. It's only 2 days, who needs vitamins? Eat malt loaf and fatty cake and custard creams.
My standard 2 day kit weighs in at 9Kg (mind you i do use a bivvy bag and I don't cook out).
hmm thanks Jon some inspiration there may look at doing something lightish this summer instead of a heavy backpacking thingy
What about a toothbrush you mucky lightweight pup? And a small pack of wet wipes wouldn't go amiss, though I guess you could be excused if you weren't sharing a tent. You could always a relinquish a banana or two if your groaning sack couldn't cope.
It's okay Joan, I did have a toothbrush, I even looked at it quite hard in the morning. Plus no-one's mentioned the camera. I figure that since it stopped working somewhere on the backside of Kinder, I could legitimately throw it away. I also had a J-cloth with me.
As for washing, I follow the dictum of my late climbing partner, which was that the whole point of going away was not to wash. Mind you he ended up with a hideous absess *sp under a wisdom tooth on El Altar, so it may not be the wisest solution...
Remember that you can save weight by drilling a few holes in the handle of the toothbrush, and a film cannister filled just half with toothpaste will last a whole week. :-)
I drilled holes in my paperback novel for the same reason, made it quicker to read as well...
Would drilling holes in your pots have the same effect...
My top tip: Peel bananas before leaving home.
You could drill holes in your tent too, to improve the ventilation.
Kev, why stop there? After peeling them, dry them in the oven, grind them to powder & put them in an empty film canister! Add water at the camp and enjoy a nice drink! :-)
And if you ddy out the water in the oven at the same time, you can stick that in a canister too.
Now I see why the old Spanish coins had holes in them. They were way ahead of us! All along I thought it was so kids could thread them onto lengths of chain to wear around necks.
Same principle, do donuts make good LW camp food?!
Don't forget to firstly remove the lid from the film canister, remove the top 4 cm (or to your own specifications) with a pair of sharp scissors and then put the lid back on.
Joan, why on earth would you want to put an oven in a film canister. This time you really have lost me...
Jon is right, it's much better to simply fill a film canister with microwaves and then release them in the popcorn-bag at the campsite.
 No-one's mentioned bubble wrap yet....
The alternative of course would be the Sup'Air single skin low-lying special 2 man race tent - half the price, half the weight, and twice as uncomfortable.
