Not sure what you mean there David - surely there are views to Lochnagar and Glenshee from those hills. However I'm more intrigued by these cwms that are mentioned!
Lochnagar probably up in that lot somewhere... (no problem seeing Glenshee from up there, this was the top of Mayar in January, as good a day's ski tour as i've had in Scotland for many ayear)
That should be "Glendoll Lodge" in the write up though...
I've done the walk in the write up many times (got married in Corrie Fee, in fact), but on this last occasion we did it from teh Glen Prosen side, partly as the ski ascent/descent is a little more benign. Cursed myself for not investigating that side before, it's just as good in its own way.
Right enough - you can just about see the top of Lochnagar behind the White Mounth, Broad Cairn etc, but its surely a superb view towards rather than to (which implies you get a good view)
Glenshee - surely not. There is a lot of high ground in the way to see anything of upper Glenshee, (you can see the Glenshee hills, but that's different), and I can't remember seeing much of the lower part from there.
Still what do I know - I've only done D & M half dozen times.
Peter - I once did Tom Buidhe (why is it a Munro?), Finalty Hill and Mayar from Jock's road in winter conditions...but I wouldn't recommend it! Miles of snow filled peat hags sap the spirit, somewhat .
David, that's what skis are for! I've been up Jock's Road to bag Tom Buidhe, Tolmount and Carn Bannoch finishing off into the top of Glen Clova in a tour, a fantastic day.
Yes, you're right it's the Glenshee hills rather than the glen itself. But whatever the views are of, they are wonderful! This one's mainly the sky and looking the other way, down along Glen Prosen, again taken in january this year...
Another nice route is a round of Carn an Tuirc, Carn of Claise and Tol/Tom from Glen Callater, coming back down Jock's Road, although I seem to remember a drough escent back into the Glen (which suggests that we missed the road!).
