they look good to me ....

"...it left our feet swimming around inside the boot and allowed our heel to lift and rock around" Our heel? I'm no expert, but that doesn't sound right to me, innit? Maybe everyone in OM Towers shares one pair of feet...

We're saving up for some additional feet, but for now those are the only ones we have... Joking aside, it's house style, but I take your point, it does read a bit oddly. Normally we have the 'OUTDOORSmagic test foot', but that's quite odd as well

"constant littany of discomfort" I'm afraid that's litany, with one t, and it means a prayer or long recital, so you could say "constant litany of complaints of discomfort". You really should stay in more

I bought these in the ladies' size 7 (41). You are absolutely right about the footbed. It immediately felt hard on the feet on every step. I promptly added a felt winter footbed, this improved it massively. I will add Superfeet Green or other more serious footbed soon, and I will keep the boots. However to note is that I found the Vibram outsole slippery on wet pavements, marble, concrete so far. maybe it will wear in. But the sole itself is great, shaped properly for walking. Lastly my feet are much sweatier in this year's version, as the waterresistant inner layer that they have added to improve protection against the outer seems to keep moisture in rather than let it out. When you take the shoes off the coolmax lining seems to dry out extremely quickly though. I'll be keeping the first of the two pairs that I bought and taking the second one back. I like them, but from Lidl have had better shoes for less.

But some people live an awful long way from a TKM and quite close to an Aldi - there seem to be a lot more Aldis in the UK than TKMs!
|
 |
Fair point, Kate. Actually I'm 1000 times closer to my nearest Aldi/Lidl than TKMaxx (living in the South of France), but I take the opportunity to have a look in TKMaxx on most of my visits to the UK as they are close to where work. I am just saying that the appeal of Aldi/Lidl etc. outdoor kit is limited for me as I have found better and often cheaper elsewhere - TKMaxx, factory outlets etc. Obviously these options depend on access to transport or being in the vicinity of these clearance outlets.

Cheap boots may often end up like these (photo taken at the Glen Nevis roadhead): As always, caveat emptor!

No, Lhoon, that was Oscar the Grouch on his Highland wildcamp. He must have left the boots out to air... Seriously, though, those boots look like they've never been worn. Even if they were cheap the chances are they could be 'broken in' to something reasonably comfortable?

I actually had a closer look at them. They looked pretty new indeed, but the sole was hanging completely loose.

 > They looked pretty new indeed, but the sole was hanging completely loose. You do wonder at some people... If they're new, but they've fallen apart, take them back and get your money back... Since the only source of Demon boots I've seen is TK Maxx, even they will do returns if the goods fall apart (as they're obliged to by the Sale of Goods Act).

Another point in ALDI/LIDLs favour is that their stuff is getting better. Okay, so you have to wait awhile, and by the time you get there, there are are only size 12 boots left and size 48 waist trousers, but it isn't half bad. Certainly not as bad as some outdoor retailers pass off at twice the price.
