...and a big "hello" from West Yorkshire too. I'm lucky, only about 25 mins from the Dales, so you have my sympathy about living in the flatlands. I think overnighters are the way forward if you live away from the lumpy bits, makes the travelling time worthwhile!

West Sussex is nice. I used to live near there (Havant - well, Leigh Park!) and spent many happy days around the ancient yew forest at Kingley Vale, or along the South Downs way.

Not as hilly as Yorkshire, mind!

Yorkshire hilly? Not if you live East of the Dales and South of the Moors. Im in York which is terribly flat, the highest point for miles around appears to be the roof of the library on the University campus!

A good point, Ben; but it's a big county, and MY bit of it is very hilly!

Thanks for the welcome folks. I will have a gander at the meets section an dsee when and where some are taking place would be nice to have a belt up and down a few hilly bits with some like minded  peeps!!

Also having read some of the items on gear im very relieved to find im not the only one who is a bit of a gear freak!!! My wife worries about me possible rucksack fetish..........

She just does not understand why I have the need for 14 different sacks of varying colours sizes and  shapes when as she says I only have one back!!!

How come that does not work in reverse with shoes or handbags for the ladies then??

Answers ona post card toooooooo.

I best go hide now

Bloomin' wierdo!!!

.

Everyone know that it is at least 10 tents that you are supposed to own not rucksacks. They can be various sizes - but only one colour - GREEN!

even the flat bits look steep if you are lying face down in the mud...

try Cambridgeshire for comparison. If I wanted to do hill training on my bike, I had to cycle to the road bridge crossing the M11!

I'm hardly better off in Toulouse, but at least the Pyrenees are in view on a clear day...

welcome to the forums

John

Mick,

at what point do you believe your character is 'built' and ready to be indulged with months of continuous sunshine? I mean, how much character does a person really need?

Surely character building is a lifelong process?

So get back here to the windswept, misty, cold old UK with the rest of us! Sunshine? Pah!
