Wot is karrimor these days? Premark tat or walking gear. Some of their shoes are awful, and any crap sports shop is full of em. Can they be trusted anymore?

I would have said up until recently that Karrimor still had decent products in their range, bought some event trail shoes about 3 years ago, possibly the best shoes I've evr had, but recently (via a poxy sports store) bought some replacemnts - not the same design - and they are trully awful, zero foot support, horrible fit. I'm going to save for some Scarpas now!

Hard to buy buy the brand when you see some of the rubbish sold under the Karrimor name. However I have a pair of KSBs which are really excellent.

Humm! I love my old KSB's a real lot too. I miss their great shops like the one in Brighton too, where you could actually talk about outdoors kit with the staff there, and they really all actually knew what they were talking about! You do not get that at a lot of Millets stores for instance by comparison now sadly. The title of this thread sounds to me like it might be a good title for an outdoors based Carry On film though! I would pay to go to see that!

The old Karrimor kit was great, i have and old set of KSB 300's which have served me well for many years. A couple of years ago i bought some new replacements from Karrimor and found them to be a lot worse, no where near as waterproof and the lacing system is definatly not as strong. I also bought on of their 3 - 4 season tents which i have found to be fantastic, it holds up to some of the worst weather i've seen and never even worried once about it. I wouldnt be so confident buying another one now or reccomending to a friend as looking and hearing about some of the newer kit they have has put me off. I do hope that whoever is backing them nown has the foresight to bring back the build quality and the reliability that the brand had years ago.

I like many here had a serious love affair with karrimor, theres still a hot ice under my bed, don tell the missus. cant seem to understand why they got into footwear tho. Outers look fine, but Ive yet to see a pair of KSBs with vibram soles. My father in law went for a right burton coming down a cobled street from Peniscola castle, it was the soles I tell you...

Oh just remembered. I did get an old karrimor down sleeping bag, which Ive given to my son. Now that isa fine piece of kit.

Glenngeorge 64 'cant seem to understand why they got into footwear tho. Outers look fine, but Ive yet to see a pair of KSBs with vibram soles.' Both my sets of KSB's have vibram soles, to be honest i dont think ive seen a set of ksb's withouth vibram soles.

I was the karrimor kid back in the 90s and was horrified by what's happened in the last few years. The core product on the official website looks decent enough though. I'm getting some test packs and footwear in, so we'll see.

graham, maybe Ive just not looked close enough

ksb's have used Vibram soles for many years among other types. The first ksb (made for karrimor by Asolo) had the prototype "dot" design you'll see on some Brashers. Anyway, I digress. There's Vibram and Vibram. The good stuff is Italian and there's a whole range of far eastern Vibram soles as well which are cheaper...

Dragging my memory back many, many years the original studded sole appeared on a boot by a long gone company called Winit. It was designed by Ken Ledward and based on football boot soles because they gripped well on wet grass, something the Vibram pattern of the day (there was only one - in two thicknesses, Roccia and Montagna) didn't. The Winit shoe didn't last long and that studded sole was used, with slight variations, by Karrimor and Brasher, for both of whom Ken Ledward acted as an adviser. Karrimor then was an independent British company. It's had quite a few owners since.

Karrimor Alpinist fleece with 4 pockets and a hood. The best i've ever had

Some of the Karrimor packs I've seen recently looked pretty good, but they always seemed to be massively discounted and that, with what I'd heard about poor Karrimor quality, put me off looking at them seriously.

Guy there seems to be 2 ranges of packs around at the moment, the GOOD ones in the proper shops and the very poor ones in the sports shops, very odd!
