Ive had a look at where's the path which was brilliant, I was able to measure my walk from the caravan!

Thanks for all the tips and routes guys. Michael, I walked that way last time I went to the lakes, brilliant place is hardknott.  Fair old march up that road aswell!  I found a place I will be visiting if the weather holds up for some brooking down by a church in (i think) boot.

Paddy I think I will follow your route as it is approx 10 mile to Styhead Tarn which I should be perfectly able to do ... but as you say there are other options on the way if my feet get sore (new boots)!  I will definately be picking up a copy of the magazine as your route sounds fascinating I didnt realise there was that many roman forts around.  I found the ones at waterhead by accident (its a shame they are not preserved a little more I think) and then travelled on up to Hardknott.

I got quite suprised last night when a mate rang asking what I was doing for the weekend, when I told him he thought it was brilliant and instantly spent a fortune online getting his gear up to scratch.  It looks like I have a walking partner!

All being well we should be leaving for the lakes saturday morning and start walking sunday after a few chilled beers and a bbq at the caravan!

Unfortunately due to work commitments I didnt make it this weekend, the trip has been postponed untill the first weekend of next month.  I have however been climbing this morning with a friend for the first time (other than outward bound style things) and it was brilliant!  It looks like im now going to be going for more than a weekend and hopefully doing some climbing while I am there!

I will let you all know how I get on after that weekend, and hopefully have some pictures!

The time is getting closer!  Im going to be leaving for Skelwith on thursday, cant wait!

One question about the forecasts though, the temperature ... how much will that drop at night?  For instance today at 750 is 6 degrees rising to 10 or something.  Surely it doesnt go below freezing over night?  I dunno lol.
