My girlfriend and I are off to France in August for a week. We're crossing Dover/Calais and then wending our way to Angers to see one of my girlfriend's old friends.
We're planning on camping on the way down and I'd like to have a couple of days around the D-Day beaches visiting some of the sites so any recommendations of nice campsites would be greatly appreciated!
Hi, if cost is an issue look for a 'Municipal' site these are run by the local council and are as good as private ones but cheaper.
Can't recommend any sites for you but on the whole & I have camped in France a lot you will not be dissapointed. Beware of the big sites that have swimming pools, shops and bars as you will have to pay approx £15~£20 per night . Usual prices are about £12 per night for 2 people & a car. Municipal sites are lower than this & I found a site once for under £5 per night
If the weather is bad for camping use Formule 1 hotels cheap & clean these cost around
£20~£25 per night for a room this means for 2 persons, also IBIS & Campanile hotels usually found on business parks outside all towns, look them up on the web as you can camp sites for the areas you want to visit
Just got back from a beautiful campsite in Lordat, Ariege... called Berbescou
I'm not sure you could get there by public transport but it's a well kept, basic , farm campsite of only 12 pitches with beautiful views and owned by a friendly couple who do a decent table d'hote option.
